Roberto Mancini has claimed he has been offered the vacant manager's job at Sunderland.

The 44-year-old former Italy forward was sacked by Internazionale 12 months ago despite leading the club to three successive Serie A titles and has been out of football since leaving San Siro.

"I am honoured to have had an offer from Sunderland Football Club," Mancini told Sky Italia. "It is a fantastic opportunity. It will be truly wonderful to lead such a prestigious and historic club in England after a year of sitting on the sidelines. I feel I am ready to start again with immense enthusiasm."

Oh what could have been.
We’d have turned him to shit somehow

That's a massive extrapolation. In all probability, he'll have a fine career and be an England regular for years to come.

I dunno if extrapolation is the word - exageration ? Doesn't matter - I understand. I always remember a case with Johan Cruff - he gave massive exposure to a young kid called Lucendo, giving him a lot of responsibility to him when he was only 17 (iirc) - the kid couldn't handle it and disappeared (he ended up playing in Andorra). Here it was always referred to as the "Lucendo case" - Pep Guardiola has this in mind in his very careful nurturing of Phil Foden. It will take Saka long time to get over this game - it was far too big for him and he crumbled.

Spain’s golden era was only 3 tournaments ago you loony. And Messi won the treble for Barca, not Enrique, let’s be fair about it. Low has an exceptional squad of players and nearly didn’t even get past Hungary ffs. The Germans can’t stand him and he had already agreed to walk away before the tournament. Don’t big them up to be more than they are.

Can throw Martinez into the mix as well - or are you going to brag about his FA Cup and relegation double?

It was 9 years ago Spain’s last decent effort in a tournament, and the team then to now is hugely different.

If Messi won the treble for Barca, why don’t they win it every (or any) other year since? Surely it’s that easy to manage them to a treble, right?

Lowe is probably done, he’s at the end of the line but he’s not hated in Germany at all, he’s been an astonishing manager for them.

Seriously mate, go and have yourself a lie down alright. I think you’re having a bit of an episode

England since 2016 - world ranking risen from 13th to 4th.
Semi finalists at the World Cup. An English player won the golden boot
Finalists at the European championships. Two kicks away from winning it.

Compared to the previous ten years

2016 - last 16, knocked out by a country with a smaller population than Coventry
2014 - bottom of our group, knocked out in the first round
2012 - knocked out in the second round
2010 - batted 4-1 in the last 16
2008 - failed to qualify
2006 - knocked out in the quarter finals
An impressive losing record. Whereas Portugal, Greece and Denmark have all won the Euros. All smaller countries by a huge margin. But we make excuses for the Manager failing to react to obvious issues on the pitch during our first Final for 55 years. Making the same errors he made in the Croatia Semi.

9 years is only 3 tournaments before this one, like I said. Hardly a massive sample to achieve against.

Spent enough time around Germans to know what they think of Low.

Those three tournaments

Out in group stage
Out in second round
Out in second round

Aye, they’ve been doing class lately like……

They won the past 38 so you'd think that would count for something.

I think that was our best chance to win it in many a year, and it's a shame we couldn't do it.
They are a good team, no doubt, but you can’t argue they have a better squad than we do at their disposal. They have a better manager, no doubt about it, and are more experienced and play the game smarter, but they aren’t more talented man for man.

What’s your point? Johnson got us to our highest place finish since Coleman was manager 3 seasons ago. Is that an achievement in itself? Get a grip kid 😂😂

Did Portugal, Greece and Denmark win the Euros while Gareth Southgate was England manager?

Congratulations mate, you’ve been waiting all tournament for a chance to scapegoat Southgate. You must have been elated when Saka missed last night, special moment for yer.

Make sure you really enjoy it.

I've been doubtful of Southgate all tournament - I haven't "enjoyed" our football, I didn't enjoy last night, his misuse of Foden, mistrust of Grealish and Sancho and just feel that my worst fears/doubts about Southgate's style have been vindicated (to myself)- but I don't feel happy about that - I wish I was totally wrong - but yesterday was awful - just awful. At home, english rain and a goal start and from then on pure shit.

What a weird argument.

Are you seriously saying Luis Enrique is a bad manager? Legitimately?

Are you that far down the rabbit-hole of criticising Southgate that you're now trying to say that basically, every manager in the world except Mancini is shit?

Jesus :lol::lol:

Weird way of admitting yo've been wrong about Southgate all tournament, but fair play to you.

Is Enrique, Southgate, Martinez and Low every manager in the world? You really are on something kid

The thing is though mate, you've been waiting all tournament for us to not win, so you can slate Southgate.

Italy took control in the second half, maybes Southgate could have been a bit quicker to make a change but it happens. He can't get every single thing absolutely perfect, and if that is standard you're going to hold him to then he's always going to fail.

But obviously the defeat (on penalties) gives you the confirmation bias that yes, you were right all along that Southgate is useless. Doesn't matter that he got >99% of things right in the tournament, the >1% of things he got wrong proves that he's rubbish
I really haven't. I was desperate for us to win.

Italy took control a lot sooner than the second half.

That's the whole problem, my misgivings seem to be totally justified. The biggest shit of all though, was Foden's injury - not Southgate's fault - I even think he would have started him, had he been fit.
