Well done Roberto Mancini.

England, and Sunderland, please take note.

Congratulations mate, you’ve been waiting all tournament for a chance to scapegoat Southgate. You must have been elated when Saka missed last night, special moment for yer.

Make sure you really enjoy it.

Bed wetting of the highest order or have I been whooshed? Use the extra hour you have this morning to think about what you've said but don't be late for school.
No. Just disappointed to lose another big game from a winning position. Disappointed that we spent long periods of the game under the cosh and the manager was unable to react and do anything about it. Disappointed that we don't have a manager of Mancini's calibre who knows how to win these games. Last night was the seventh Cup win of his managerial career, not to mention his league successes. I realise there isn't an English manager alive with a similar record, so perhaps frustration got the better of me after the game, but it's no surprise the best qualified manager there told his players two years ago to think about winning the Euros and then went and did just that.

Fair play, but there has to be a recognition that England (manager and players) cannot just "make it happen"; the Italians played a big part in what happened last night.

I feel sad & disappointed that we lost and I'll just let that sink in for a while. I think that the FA, Southgate and the players will do likewise; we can look at what went wrong and how we can try to put it right for the World Cup.

No they can't just make it happen. But we went from scoring one of the goals of the tournament with a lovely move, to not being able to string three passes together and getting deeper and deeper under pressure. We were still winning. There was no response despite a strong bench and 5 subs.

I'm disappointed in the result, and I'm disappointed in the way Southgate conducted the game. If that makes me an arsehole/bed wetter/school kid to his ever faithful then so be it. The bloke is not beyond reproach.

Someone has been waiting for this moment to have a pop at a manager who has got it right 98% of the tournament, and even the 2% was unlucky due to pens.
Haway man where’s the honesty? We played excellent against Ukraine but were average in the other games, we couldn’t even beat Scotland!

Southgate blew it bigtime. Only putting our most creative player Greilisjh on in the second half of extra time, when it was too late. Then giving penalties to the three youngsters, and not Greilish and Stirling was criminal.
The better team won.

The thing is though mate, you've been waiting all tournament for us to not win, so you can slate Southgate.

Italy took control in the second half, maybes Southgate could have been a bit quicker to make a change but it happens. He can't get every single thing absolutely perfect, and if that is standard you're going to hold him to then he's always going to fail.

But obviously the defeat (on penalties) gives you the confirmation bias that yes, you were right all along that Southgate is useless. Doesn't matter that he got >99% of things right in the tournament, the >1% of things he got wrong proves that he's rubbish

In fairness, Mancini also has some of the best players in the world at international level at his disposal, with more on the bench.
Our team are excellent and still learning, you can't always beat experience with youthful enthusiasm sadly

You are 100% right. I said the same on another thread. Mancini is the only really successful and “good” manager out of the major nations - appointments like Enrique and Low are very similar to our Southgate one. Whereas Mancini is a proven manager with an exceptional track record, and low and behold the one with the proper manager wins the tournament.

Maybe it's not the moment to criticize, but all I can say is that our performance, apart from the opening 15 mins, was awful in football terms. I felt negative from the moment I read Foden was injured - any hope of football down the spout. How many misplaced passes did we make? How many hopeless punts out of the area. I didn't watch the penalties as the result was so obvious. Btw, Southgate might have destroyed Saka's career.

That's a massive extrapolation. In all probability, he'll have a fine career and be an England regular for years to come.

England since 2016 - world ranking risen from 13th to 4th.
Semi finalists at the World Cup. An English player won the golden boot
Finalists at the European championships. Two kicks away from winning it.

Compared to the previous ten years

2016 - last 16, knocked out by a country with a smaller population than Coventry
2014 - bottom of our group, knocked out in the first round
2012 - knocked out in the second round
2010 - batted 4-1 in the last 16
2008 - failed to qualify
2006 - knocked out in the quarter finals

Do you really think Italy had better resources to win a football match than England?

Joki Low won a WC 6 years ago, and has got Germany to one other final and three semi-finals.

Enrique won the treble with Argentina and took Spain further than they’ve been since their golden era.

Are….are you trying to say they aren’t good managers?

WTF is going on in here today man

Spain’s golden era was only 3 tournaments ago you loony. And Messi won the treble for Barca, not Enrique, let’s be fair about it. Low has an exceptional squad of players and nearly didn’t even get past Hungary ffs. The Germans can’t stand him and he had already agreed to walk away before the tournament. Don’t big them up to be more than they are.

Can throw Martinez into the mix as well - or are you going to brag about his FA Cup and relegation double?

Roberto Mancini has claimed he has been offered the vacant manager's job at Sunderland.

The 44-year-old former Italy forward was sacked by Internazionale 12 months ago despite leading the club to three successive Serie A titles and has been out of football since leaving San Siro.

"I am honoured to have had an offer from Sunderland Football Club," Mancini told Sky Italia. "It is a fantastic opportunity. It will be truly wonderful to lead such a prestigious and historic club in England after a year of sitting on the sidelines. I feel I am ready to start again with immense enthusiasm."

Oh what could have been.
