Worth watching after motd2?
Thats a fair assumption as the natives in question were from a tribe that were so big and advanced that they were naturally the supreme beings of their particular 'world' so would maybe think they were untouchable by any fellow creatures.
I'm still sticking with the gods theory though.
Chicken and egg. I still think 'what the fuck is that' kicked in before 'fuck me, these are gods' like.
I think you're right. I watched a programme years ago about Cortez and his lot and they were saying that the maya believed that their gods had pale skin and lived in the east (where the sun rose).
So when a ship (WTF is that!) turned up from the east with pale skinned blokes on it they thought they must be gods.
The programme also reckoned that this was the reason the spanish weren't immediately killed or captured.
And yes, thoroughly enjoyed the film as well.
Thought it shit and daft as fuck
Dafty
It didnt go anywhere.
Gibson is an arch Roman Catholic [his dad doesn't accept Vatican II and I doubt Mel does either].Great film. Really enjoyed it. Don't get why those 2 at the end just wander off towards the ship though.

Most folk consider the conquistadors and their forced conversions/genocides to be a not very nice thing.
To me, the whole film is an attempt to portray the arrival of the RCC as a good thing by showing how horrible the locals were before the arrival of the missionaries.
