Apocalypto

Thats a fair assumption as the natives in question were from a tribe that were so big and advanced that they were naturally the supreme beings of their particular 'world' so would maybe think they were untouchable by any fellow creatures.

I'm still sticking with the gods theory though.

I think you're right. I watched a programme years ago about Cortez and his lot and they were saying that the maya believed that their gods had pale skin and lived in the east (where the sun rose).

So when a ship (WTF is that!) turned up from the east with pale skinned blokes on it they thought they must be gods.

The programme also reckoned that this was the reason the spanish weren't immediately killed or captured.

And yes, thoroughly enjoyed the film as well.

Chicken and egg. I still think 'what the fuck is that' kicked in before 'fuck me, these are gods' like.

Aye but everything different or strange was automatically blamed on the gods, so the train of thought would surely be 'what the fuck is that - fuck me these are gods like'

Don't forget that they were banging on about bad omens all the time, which were all down to 'upsetting' the gods.

If you watch the end scene you can see where the two warriors look at each other then just kind of start walking forward in a trance like state.

Obviously Jaguar Paw, after the intial shock, has his wife and bairn to check which overrides this and he legs it.

Great film. Really enjoyed it. Don't get why those 2 at the end just wander off towards the ship though.
Gibson is an arch Roman Catholic [his dad doesn't accept Vatican II and I doubt Mel does either].

Most folk consider the conquistadors and their forced conversions/genocides to be a not very nice thing.

To me, the whole film is an attempt to portray the arrival of the RCC as a good thing by showing how horrible the locals were before the arrival of the missionaries.

I think both were pretty bad myself, in parts.

With Gibsons track record, I'm surprised that the conquistadors didn't turn up flying the white ensign and speaking the Queens English and proceeded to wipe all of the natives out.

I think its just to show how there life was a constant struggle, just got away from them mad fuckers then the Spanish dudes turn up to enslave them or whatever.

gibsons deffinitly a twat like and if he could have put an anti british slant to it he would have

Just finished watching the end - the bit where they gan up to the temple was enough to put me off me pek chopped pork sarnie

I thought it was a case of life's struggles being put into perspective when the march of history (in this case the arrival of a European invasion force) leaves everything your civilisation has built over thousands of years squashed in its footprint.

Imho it was just the differnce between the two peoples, an corrupted warrior race who tear down trees and are a general pain in the arse and a peaceful tribe at one, and in tune with nature. The two warriors who have always been dominant in their world just blunder in towards the Spanish despite the prophecy that their prey would lead them to their doom while the wiser, peaceful fella recognises shit whe he sees it and gets the fuck out of Dodge.
