Confucius confused??
Not really
You "felt sorry" for someone who was being pulled up for not knowing a well-known proverb (it isn’t a typo despite your protestations), then you confirm its Ok for him to slap a player down. I feel sorry for O'Brien here not some poster and his dog who couldn't give him any credit

I just think that after one page it's enough. Sometimes people jump on the bandwagon and keep on laughing because of their own psychological insecurity.

His comment was hardly slapping the player down - he was just stating, inopportunely, the obvious. If you want to see examples of that just look at the comments on page 1 of the match thread regarding O'Brien's inclusion. More than slapping him down people were writing him off as a footballer - and I am glad to see that they have been proved wrong.

Here in Catalonia it's "un flor no fa estiu", which for those who might not read in Catalan means "one flower doesn't make it summer".

Johan Cruyff was famous for misquoting. His version was "One dove doesn't make a summer". I imagine that's the Dutch version.

Feel a little sorry for the OP - people on here can be merciless - like kicking a man when he's down. (6 pages)

The mods should make it possible to correct thread titles - it's very easy to make typos if you're posting from your phone.
The original quote was by Aristotle so I must admit to being slightly surprised to read that the saying isn't universally applied around Europe.

Also I was not making any protest about his typo - it wasn't a typo - he got it wrong in a funny way.

My comment about the typo was in general. It's easy to make embarrassing fukc ups when posting from a phone.

"he hasn't been very good for us so far" just after scoring a hat trick is slapping him down.

In most countries the only thing that changes might be the particular bird.
"he hasn't been very good for us so far" just after scoring a hat trick is slapping him down.
"So far" I understand means until Tuesday night. Others have put him down in far more brutal fashion. As far as I can gather, some would gladly have physically put him down like a horse with a broken leg!

Your words

On a thread where the title that is "one swan etc..... ".
Look I couldn't give a shiny what people post on here, its open to interpretation and a response how people see fit. As long as it isn't abusive which I can't see here

Yes, but that was the last paragraph and not referring to the OP. It is a general statement. Sorry if you read it wrong - maybe my mistake.

Ah right my mistake, he says he hasn't been good for us since he joined, he doesn't say "so far", does that make a difference now?
Yes but if other people are putting him down have they got other posters feeling sorry for them?
I don't rate O'Brien and have said so, but am prepared to put myself up there to be shot at, without back up from anonymous posters. I get it about the mistake he's made and the follow up, but you seem more concerned than him

We all put ourselves on the line when expressing possibly controversial opinions - "tin hat on" - it's part of the fun having a good argument - within limits of cordiality - when people get over-aggressive and resort to insults, it's time to tell'em to get fukced and turn to something else
