Anyone walked over a frozen pond/lake?

Was walking through Mowbray park yesterday and there were three people on the pond. One lad, probably about 7/8 was stamping on it while his mother just stood and watched from about 20m away. Unfortunately it held firm.
Absolutely wild the way your mind works, you'd actually wish harm on a child?

Barnes Park pond as a kid.
There’s a small one out the back of mine which has been frozen over for about a week now. Might head over and see if I go through.

Yes when I was about 12. Me and my cousin were walking through a farmers field and came across a frozen pond. There was no way around it so we had to either go over it or go back the way we came, so we decided to go over it.

Long story short we started stamping on it to make it crack which looking back now I still shake my head at as it was obvious what would happen. We were about half way across when the ice gave. Thankfully it was only waist high but unfortunately it was a manure pond.

I still remember scrambling out and running across the field towards my grans house, only to realise my cousin wasn’t with me. I turned around to look where he was and he was still swimming in it. He was covered head to toe in cow shit.

We didn’t half get a telling off from my dear old Gran bless her who got a bit of a fright when these two pre-pubescents turned up at the back door covered in and stinking of shit.

I’ve been an angler all my life and the dangers under surface are huge even without ice.

I’ve been over my head with flooded waders and the sole reason I’m here is friends dragging me out.

That was in October and I literally couldn’t get my breath for about 15m

3 foot but what about silt?

It suck’s you in
Yes that's another good point.
Easy to drown in 3 foot of water if you lose your balance too, and also you're talking about water that's gonna be very, very cold - soon become unconscious if you can't get back on your feet straight away

It's not just the depth though.
If you do through the ice, you can be sucked along under the coating of ice, so can't get back up through the he you've gone through originally.
A knar. That’s my absolute worst water related fear like. That video @Jon Dough just posted is horrible.
A few winters ago I walked up the Grey Mare's tail to a frozen Loch Skeen and walked over the ice to have lunch on the Island

Looks warm

Walked along the canal in Edinburgh about, er 2010? Also been across the loch on Stirling University campus in about 85. Both very frozen, the latter had an island and someone a few years earlier thought it would be funny to stick an old banger on it using the time it was frozen, but it didn't make it across!!

Worked in Kazakhstan about ten year ago and the main river in atyrau was frozen solid.

I walked on the edge and not any further, but there where locals fishing on it the mad gets.

The reckon they find a few bodies when it eventually thaws out in warmer weather!
