VAUX GOLD TANKARD
116 mile – Single Day – Grand Prix
Perhaps Arthur's greatest achievement as both a sportsman and a great competitor, was his record in the Vaux Gold Tankard. This 116 mile Grand Prix was the UK’s top one-day event and was run on ten consecutive occasions from 1961 to 1970, with high value prizes.

It attracted some of the world’s top amateur and professional cyclists and the list of its winners reads like Cycling’s Who’s Who. This hard and gruelling event was held in the Weardale Valley and surrounding hills.

Yes, I won it on 9 consecutive occasions (Never entered the 1st)
