Anyone read the Cattermole interview in the NOTW?

I don't think his passing is good enough to be anywhere near England at present.

Against Chelsea this wasn't the case but generally speaking he does give the ball away in the most basic of situations.

And throw in his brain farts and all in all - nee chance for a few years yet.

Don't know how much of it is fact,

But by the sounds of it he was as gutted as anyone when he was sent off against Wigan, got alot of stick for it, on here and elsewhere, deservedly as it was stupid,
But he has since then been brilliant and deserves alot of praise,

In my opinion he would be a good contender for a England call up, still young, captain of a premiership club, consistent, ball winner, and can pass a ball, not many English born young players like him about.

And by what he was saying in the paper, has his head screwed on and is working harder then ever to improve himself.

Top fella, and I'm glad he is the captain of SAFC.

He seems to have gone back in the pecking order, as wasn't he previously a regular for the U-21's?

And if Barry can get the England "holding midfielder" role, surely LC must be in with a shout?

See I'm of the opposite opinion, I don't think he is actually good with the ball, by no means a world beater, but when we have possession he looks to switch it quickly. Or looks to play it forward far more then he looks to go backwards,
It's still something he could improve on though, but he is still young, and with the England squad as it is at the moment, with capello looking at the younger generation, I don't see why he coolant be in line for a call up, I think he has the kind of attitude where he would learn from some of the better players, which would help him aswell,

Even the best passers in the world give the ball away on occasions.

Agree but image international referees with Cattermole they would have a field day with the tackles he puts in

I think that one part of his game that he doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for is his support for the man on the ball. He nearly always offers someone the option of a pass. Sounds simple, but not a hallmark of all top players. He just needs to work now on using it better when in possession. He is decent in that department but he could be do much better too.

Good player who could be a great player if he learns to control his temper/tackling. Fine line between being hard like Bally and being dirty and hot headed.

Sounds like the kind of interview that Joey Barton gives.

"I'll behave in future....honest"

Aye, Cattermole has been known to stub cigars out in youth team players eyes, bray his team-mates when they're on the floor and chin young 'uns outside Mcdonalds after 3 of his mates have had a go first hasn't he?

He is a f***ing class act, and we are really seeing the player he is now he has had a run injury free, will be a top top captain for this club

One weakness with Cattermole is his lack of pace. Once a player gets past him, he's not going to catch up with him. Also probably why he finds himself having to put in some slide tackles too just to get there.

Mind you, Barry is even slower so...

Gary Neville got away with a sending off away to Stoke for the exact same challenges that got Cattermole red cards against Brum and Wigan. One rule for one.......

With Englands so called golden generation (loada bollox) getting ready to be put out to pasture Capello is right to be looking to bring through the next generation but is he making a mistake by looking at the twenty year olds with a handful of premiership games under their belts. Where are the rest of Catts peer group at? Surely there is a decent crop of 23-27 year olds with 150+ premiership games to their credit who are worth looking at?

Agree.

Some people on here must be so perfect when they play/played football and of course make no mistakes. He is a good player, young who will only get better.

Hopefully he stays with us for a very long time.

HAWAY, when you read some of the stuff 25%

what a terrible comparison, not even in the same ball park, you've had a mare on this one Sima

I think it's an ok comparison in that they both say I've learnt my lesson, I'll not do it again, the nature of what they are doing is totally incomparable.

It's all well and good saying I know I need to change but Catts needs to prove it over a long period of time. Lets be honest about it (I know it was a totally different offence) but he should have been sent off against Stoke and he lost his head against Newcastle and could have gone there.

If he's going to act like he did against the Mags then he hasn't learnt anything and will continue to be an accident waiting to happen.
