Anyone on here build PC's?

Yes, the first one being a bundle of MOBO, Proccesor and Ram.

How much have you got to spend ?

£500 max. The main thing I want it for is the graphics card as I need it for video editing, so it needs a card with dual monitor support + HDMI out. Nvidia seems to be the best, I've seen the Geforce GTX 460 which seems canny, but it's knowing all the right bits to go with it.

How much would you expect to pay for a pc built to this spec, minus the Operating System and Memory Card Reader?

One minor amendment. Will make a little difference with large data transfers.

That's a hec of a spec. for a base unit. You'll forget little extras (cables, etc.) so budget £350+. Also make sure you've a power supply up to the job.

I've done the self-build thing and it's not too difficult provided you have someone guide you through your first attempt. After that, it's like a set-piece jigsaw.

That deal is not a bad one really, you will struggle to beat it building it yourself even.

Why not go with AMD ?

Something like this with a lot of RAM will benefit you with video editing:

Thanks for the info. I thought the deal looked not too bad, obviousy not brilliant but ok. I just begrudge paying for a pc coming with Windows 7 and loads of sh-ite free software when I'll be wiping it and installing my own version if I get it.

Try pcspecialist.co.uk. You can build yer own there and get an idea.

Also, get down to wh smiths. One of the latest pc mags is reviewing 30 odd graphics cards this month. Not sure which one tho. Sorry.

Cheers for that, just the sort of thing I was looking for.
