Be very careful if you go to a Mitsubishi dealer for a diagnostic check.

They will certainly have all the latest equipment, but from my experience, their interpretation of any faults codes present can be pretty poor.

Depending upon the year of your Colt, most decent independents that offer diagnosis facilities should have the approproate diagnostic plug.

You shouldn't need to pay much more than £60.00 for a diagnostic check.

Is the light staying on all the time?

I'm pretty sure that your car should have a standard OBD2 diagnostic port so it shouldn't be too difficult to find someone to check your vehicle.

As Morse has already pointed out an illuminated check engine light can be caused by many things and it isn't always serious or expensive - but it can be.

An overdue routine service can even cause the CEL to illuminate.
