Anyone been to Essen and Saint Nazaire?

Stayed there quite a bit. It's like ryhope, apart from its rolling countryside, high standard of living for normal working people, excellent hospitals , the trains run on time, it's warm, no litter , no smack heads, but they both have a gas storage system. But the one in Essen is an art gallery

Seaham is twinned with Gerlingen, when I was at school we had a load of their students fly over for a week. 10 German bombers never felt so sweet after we played them off the park (tennis courts) at footy.

That was absolutely nee help but slightly related a suppose.

I have been to St Nazaire - the U-boat sub base is there - they also have an old submarine there that you can go in, its terrifying thinking you would spend days underwater in it its tiny and very claustrophobic

They also have two football teams in Essen.

Rot-Weiss Essen (Red-White Essen)and Schwarz-Weiß Essen (Black-White Essen). Apparently Rot-Weiss and their supporters are renowned throughout Germany as being kings and princes amongst men. They are brave and fearless in the face of adversity. The men are said to be the handsomest in the land.
Schwarz-Weiß on the other hand are a bunch of losers who shag their own sisters and dribble gravy down their clothes. They have little teeth to speak of and will happily sell their own mother to achieve success. They have a predilection to harm animals. Nobody in Germany likes them and they are spat on by everyone.

We had a young lass from Essen working with us in some student exchange thing. She said Essen is crap, just a big industrial city.

Mind she wasn't the cheeriest. At the end of her placement she put in her review her time with us had made her realise she didn't want to work in an office.
