Anyone been on remand?

Notice their is a prison feel to some of the threads on here today, so staying in line with that, has anyone been kept in remand for something they were then cleared off? Not doing it and been guilty as that would be classed as part of your conviction tie. I nearly had a scrape recently of been accused and was bailed and then cleared, but I was shitting myself thinking I could be placed on remand, and the consequences that must go with it IE losing your job, doing time for something you hadn't done, and other prisoners trying to goad you into fights which puts you in the shit situation of been shit on or fighting back and getting in more bother. The stress would kill me.

To think they can just keep you in a a jail for on average 100 days and up to 2 years in some cases! 2 years of your life just gone, and then if you're cleared it's just crack on. No compo for the loss of 2 years of your life seems wrong to me. Obviously depends on the case and what the charge is mind

Mods move to SMB @Roger @Pancho

My old man did two separate years (I think they were both a year or so) on remand - maintained his innocence for both til he died.
Mind, he also did a life sentence just before.

Bloody hell mate . I won't pry but that's hardcore. I get they have to keep certain people in but 2 years with just a sorry if that at the end (I doubt you'd get a sorry tbh) is just shocking when you think of it. It's fine until it happens to you

The longest you can be kept in custody for a crown court case before conviction is 182 days (unless an application is made to extend it).

All firearms offences in London mate. Obviously the life one, he admitted to me after release (I hadn't see him for years). Didn't even get a sorry or anything though for the two remands.
Came back up North, was diagnosed with Cancer and dead within a couple of months.

Mind, I had a phonecall from Cleveland Police about something that happened over 20 years ago last year. They thought I was him my middle name is his.
I told them I knew notjing ans cpuldn't helo them so, no idea what's gone on there but have a bit of an idea after Googling..

Well if they extend it its still longer but even 182 days is bad enough if you're actually innocent.
I'll admit to this too. Was awful. Hung over me for months until they decided I hadn't done anything
I just started a new job and was terrified of losing it. Bail now is 3 months instead of 28 days from before. I was cleared with not a word from the police or my solicitor. I was told charges dropped but was shitting myself in case I was breaking bail conditions and straight on remand as police or solicitor were not answering my calls. Bloody joke. Its sorted now but its peoples lives they are f***ing about with here

Not related, but I was going through security clearance checks for a job I was offered at the Foreign Office when an old caution came back to bite.

I’d answered “no” to any convictions, without realising a caution was classed as a spent conviction. Was a sickening few weeks waiting to find out if my clearance was going to be approved or refused.

I had to have a meeting/interrogation with an ex-MET copper who in the end just laughed it off as though it was nothing..... Don’t think I slept for two weeks!

Probably similar. Felt longer. Every month trail myself in, worried to death, get spoken to like utter shite and be sent away

One day I went in, that's your bail ended. No explanation and a letter followed. An officer did ring eventually and say there was nothing to answer. I just had no idea what was going on, what the other person could be concocting, and was in a state of worry all the time, constantly making up worst case scenarios in my head

Hid it from work but I should have told them as per their HR policies

Mistake. They will probably put it in the away fans staying in the North stand thread

I think that if he had previously been given a life sentence its almost certain that he would have been released on licence for the rest of his life. In that case the powers that be could re-commit him to prison at any time for any period if they had any reason to believe that he wasn't behaving himself or he might become involved in a crime etc.

In such circumstances they don't have prove anything or take the person to court. If they think a person who is on licence is a danger to the public they could hold them for years or even forthe rest of their life as the original life sentence had intended. There is also no limit to how many times a person on licence can be recommitted to prision while they are alive. It's not the same as a person being arrested for a crime then being held on remand while they are awaiting trial
