shit day

emerson thome threw his bandana into the crowd

have we ever played well against everton since the waddler curled in that free kick back in 1996?

Remember Michael Bridges taking Everton apart at Goodison some years back.

We were never getting into Europe that season. Man city had to beat chelsea for us to have a sniff and IIRC City were a poor side with nothing to play for.

I remember that, it prompted the Everton player Watson to say on MOTD that we could get into Europe. We got relegated

I was there last day of the season in one of the seventh place finishes. Think we drew 2-2 and Sorrenson saved a penalty? Can't remember us throwing it away as such, I can only remember being mildly disappointed.
I was in with the Everton fans and we had a canny day. Drank in a pub called Stanley Park beforehand and it was full of Sunderland fans. Stayed back in the ground for a few afterwards then nipped back in there for one. It was rough as a badger's arse. Loads of rumours were floating round that Walter Smith had been sacked.

Didn't we have to rely on someone else to lose anyway - and they won? I may be wrong but I think it was more of an outside chance rather than a full blown capitulation on our part?

didnt Kevin Phillip, score a great curler in front of the north stand against them?
Cracking goal that i was right behind it in the North Stand it was in as soon as it left his boot think it ended a shitty run we were on...Nicky Barmby also scored a cracking goal that day

We had to win and Man City had to beat Chelsea for us to get into Europe. We got a draw (2 cracking finishes from Philips and a late free-kick headed off the line) but Chelsea beat Man City anyway so it was immaterial. We threw away our chance of Europe long before that with an awful run from Christmas to Easter.

yep we went in the everton end that day hoping for a miracle, it was around the time the foot and mouth was kicking about cos we knicked a sign on the way home and put it on me mates front door.
we also decided to follow the safc bus on the way out of liverpool thinking it would be heading home, it was heading to blackpool
