Any vids of Majas hatrick ?

A brief recap. When he played for us, plenty on here slated him because "all he does is score goals". Then when he left us, plenty slated him for being a mercenary. Now he's started to do well, plenty are slating our owners because we let him go (this mercenary who only scores goals). He clearly wanted to go. We offered him what his agent asked for, then his agent moved the goalposts. He made the right decision to leave, in my opinion. It was a chance he might never have got again. Good luck to the lad. I hope he goes to the very top of the game & his jealous detractors think about him ivry day, grinding their teeth down to the gums.

I think the first half of that is a very one sided argument, by the time we offered what he wanted we had messed them around a great deal and he had outgrown us. There was a window where, had we had the foresight we could of kept him, we didn't and have lost millions on the back of it.

This is what changes the fortunes of a football club.

2 goals in 13 appearances before last night where he bagged 3 against the 2nd bottom team in the league to take him to 5 in 14. He’s hardly setting Ligue 1 alight is he?

Couldn’t give a flying fuck how he’s getting on to be honest, move on, he’s gone!

Coming off the bench aye. Sure he averages a goal every 80 minutes there or something daft like that

14 appearances with 3 starts. Has now got a goal every 85 minutes on the pitch so far this season and averages on 31 minutes on the pitch.

Grigg is now on 799 mins per goal this season! If he doesn't score Saturday and plays for more than 51 mins that means it takes over 10 times as long on the pitch for him to score a goal than Maja!
There you go ^ goal every 84 mins

You might be right, but that's not how I remember it. I accept that he should have been tied down to a longer contract long before the new owners came in. When they did come in, they had so many fires to fight, Maja was probably not high on their list of priorities. It's easy to be wise in retrospect, but did any of us really think he was going to do as well as he did under Jack Ross? I didn't. But I was delighted when he did. By then, as it turned out, it was too late. Either way, you - a young player of promise, making a bit of a name for yourself, albeit in the third tier of English football - get the chance to play for one of the top teams in France, who probably pay you more money too. What do you do? He left. Did he do the right thing from his point of view (the only one that matters, in this scenario)? Almost certainly.
And you're right, on such decisions turn the fortunes of many clubs, not only ours. Judging them after the event is easy. Not so easy in "real time".

Not slag his agent off and question his motives at every point whilst still negotiating. Also said they were going to sit Josh down and talk to him away from his agent which I can’t imagine is good practice. Embarrassing the way the whole thing played out in public, whole thing was totally unprofessional.

When it came to him leaving Keith Downie also said that SD was creative of the truth in trying to beat SSN out getting the story out that he was turning down a deal. He claimed sky reckoned they were going to put a montage on of his goals to tout him off regardless, Keith Downie said it didn’t happen and if Donald was honest he’d admit he was being ‘creative’. Can listen to RR podcast back with Downie to confirm. SD went on like a clown.

Looks like he starts and gets pulled off to me: Josh Maja - Stats 19/20 (Detailed view)

Unless I’m reading this wrong?

aye you’re reading it wrong. Looks like he’s only started the last 3 and the rest of the games he’s coming on which is why there’s a time under the green arrow. Against Lyon he played 4 mins against Amiens he played 1 min etc. He injured his cruciate last season and has been coming back which is why he wasn’t involved more early on (I’m presuming)

All of those that is completely fair enough.

Completely agree with the fire fighting and the expectations.

But.... there was a window where it was apparent he was better than expected and available for us to sign him for longer. We missed it, and this is the decisions makers job after all, foresight.

No one said it was easy, it shouldn't be left to a fan or an idealist that believes young players should be elated just to be given the opportunity to play here.

Foresight was lacking and it cost the club many millions all things considered. This is what they should be judged on.

Downie doesn't strike me as someone whose opinion I think carries weight. Donald contradicts himself with alarming regularity. Methven is Methven. RR have been repeatedly discredited. Neither Johnson nor Corbin can be trusted or believed. Trump specialises in lying, to such a degree that the things he bats away as "fake news" are possibly the only things I can actually believe to be true.
Fortunately, none of this really matters to me. What is done is done. We must concentrate on now. That's the only thing I think is remotely real.

Judge not, lest ye be judged....

Whether there was ever such a window, I really don't know. Perhaps yes, perhaps no. But no one but Maja knows what was in his mind at what I might call "the material time". And what was in his mind & what was said to have been in his mind are not necessarily the same thing.

I'm happy to be judged and if I'm wrong I will say it. If I was wrong and it was costing me millions of pounds, I would hire someone brighter than myself to make those decisions in the future.

I called it at the time and turns out I was right, been wrong about many things as well im sure, but then it isn't up to me.

It's not about calling people names or anything like that, it's about them being qualified to do a good job or at the very least understand what doing a good job is. The Maja/Grigg fiasco is a prime example of where they have got it so hideously wrong, they have caused harm to the football club through lack of foresight not bad intent.

I take your point, Coeus, la. But this is all judged after the event. You may have been right to hold a certain opinion at the time, you may not. It's not clear that a decision is good or bad until after the event. Much luck is involved, especially in football, where so much turns on a single scoring point (i.e. a goal, ha, ha) c.f. pretty much all other sports, in which many scoring points are the norm. It's a fragile, fragile business. Did anyone think Maja would turn out so well & Grigg so poor? Maybe, maybe not, but I suspect not many, if we're being truthful with ourselves. You may ascribe much of this to judgement & you might be right. I ascribe most of it to luck & I might be wrong. In the unlikely event anything else occurs to me, I'll come back to you.
