I'd only be guessing mate. But, iirc it was something to do with the amount of water the trees take out of the ground and if you remove the trees at the wrong time then the ground will move due to the extra water it is holding and cause sibsidence. I'd check it out though as 15 ft sounds quite close. Let us know if I'm way off the mark.
It isn't hard to cut the trees themselves down tbh, providing you don't need to remove the roots as well.
Took me an hour to cut 4 12foot ones in my garden down with a hand saw, and another day almost to get the roots to below ground level![]()

Drill holes in the stumps and pour drain cleaner in the holes. Gan back a couple of days later with a stump grinder which will grind the stump down below ground level.......will take you less than an hour and it will cost about £100 to hire the grinder for the day.
Not looking forward to it, but its got to be done. Can you not just kill the roots off or have they got to be removed? Thats some graft with a handsaw![]()
If you can drop the wood off at the Vaults they will take it off ya hands for the fire.
Slightly closer than the tip so saves petrol.

If you can leave them above ground its not that bad mate, i had to get them below ground level so i could lay paving where they'd been. Just cut them into sections afterwards & took them to tip in the car - saves paying for skip
Not bad to cut down even with handsaw, but they knack your arms & face after a while
Aye I think thats the bit I'm not looking forward to, the muscle painthe type where the day after you cant even put your arms up to brush your teeth
and I think a combination of a few small garden fires/trips to the tip will be on the cards.

I had about twenty feet lopped off some we had and it cost about £100. I got sick of them in the end and bought a chain saw, cut them down myself, with care, of course. My son had a truck at the time, took the very large amount of remains away in that. Cutting them down is easy, it's disposing of the left overs that is the problem. I suppose you get a shredder and plenty of bags.

Soft as sh-te, only joking.
Thats the problem I think, getting rid of it all. Will rope my lads in to cut them down, so that shouldnt take too long. Its me own fault for letting them get this big, I'll not do it again![]()
I know, I did the same myself, I used to worry that they would blow over in strong winds and then about the roots and the drains. I don't know what possessed me to put them in in the first place. If you know anyone with transport it's not so bad but a shredder and bags would do as well. I think that subconsiously, it was the fact that my son had the truck that made my mind up.
agreed, I dont know why I put them in either, me da did warn me about themthey dont even look nice, so they are definitely coming down even if it takes me weeks
With the chainsaw it took me a day to cut one right down to ground level. As long as you make sure that your standing stable and safely, you can't help but be aware of the danger, it's not so bad. I have had nightmares thinking of what could happen though.
