Any single parent took a child abroad ?

A letter from the person with parental responsibility for the child is usually enough to show you've got permission to take them abroad. You might be asked for the letter at a UK or foreign border, or if there's a dispute about taking a child abroad.

Do you get asked for a letter from the other parent by border police/force ?

You can be asked to show permission at any border point.

Legally: If you have a child arrangements order, you can take the child abroad for up to 30 days without permission of the other parent. If you don't have an order, you need the permission of the other parent to take the child abroad.

I have travelled a lot and only been asked for evidence of permission once when leaving the Netherlands but they are more strict about it than other countries.

I have a child arrangements order now as he withdrew his permission out of sheer spite a couple of months before a holiday, so I had to go to court and get the order. Just a word of warning as I don't know how amicable you and ex are.

Been all over Europe as a single parent...never gave it a thought. Man with child / woman with child...who cares.

Firstly, do you have a 'lives with' order?

What you'll probably get away with will be different to the legal position.

This, presuming you're the recipient of the lives with order part. If not then, probably not.
