any idea how much is it to put stairs into the loft?

How do they manage to replace the joists for the floor without making a hole in your roof?
They do it one at a time, adding new stronger joists alongside the old ones, and sitting them on the new steel beams. It took the joiner weeks to complete mine

Let's face it there are thousands of homes up and down the country that have done this, from flooring them out with weyroc to store the xmas tree etc up to creating a cheap bedroom. Either way roof trusses are not designed to carry such weight, they're only held together with nail gang plates, I'm surprised they don't just tear apart with the stress. How surveyors doing home buyers reports don't flag this up is beyond me.
Depends when the house was built, joists in old properties are about 3" wide.

I was up in mine the other day, considering getting it done but dunno if it would be worth it. Walkable space width wise was about the width of me with my arms stretched out. Haven’t got 30k to get it done out like. If someone could do the joists, amend the trusses and put a velux in I’d do the rest. Might wait until I’ve paid the kitchen off.

5 grand? For some stairs?! Just do it yourself. Watch a YouTube video.

In fairness you’re probably being very reasonable. I’m just saying what my mates said to me when I had my loft boarded for less than it cost them to actually watch YouTube videos and then do it themselves.

I’d genuinely give the above an email/phonecall and see what they can do…
