Any exiles wishing they were home due to our form?

What a sad fcuk you are "Des". I was one of the thousands who were worried at the start of the season and expressed my views accordingly. The team, and Bruce, have done a great job in turning it around and well done to them, I am thrilled. If I want to spend my money to fly thousands of miles to watch the club I've followed for 43 years, I will do so thank you. Or perhaps I won't now, since you have exposed me as a doom-mongering charlatan, As someone who was once a pretty good poster, it is sad to see you like this. And of course Riv jumps on the bandwagon. Sad to say, there are mags on this board who talk more sense than both of you.

here here

Nee chance. I wouldn't swap my life for nothing. I would elaborate but don't want to be slaughtered greedminds'esque

Nothing personal against anyone. People will live wherever it makes them happy. For me in my line of work I couldn't have the lifestyle I have here or the money to go with it if I moved back there, and no amount of trophies in the cabinet at the SOL are going to make up for that. Simple choice it's a no brainer.

Agreed entirely. I work for the government out here, don't pay tax and have a relatively stress free job on better money than my last work in the UK. There always seems to be people wanting to have a pop at the exiles for having committed the 'sin' of taking risks to better themselves, their lives and their families. Seeing the lads vs living a great life... it really is a no brainer.

Moved away over 10 years ago now, working in London but still managed to get to most home games and some away. I moved to Jersey last year and since then have only been able to get to a handful of games due to the cost of getting off the rock making it difficult to justify for a football game (especially if bringing the family, going to be £500 in January).

I still have my season ticket so feel I'm doing my bit but so far this season only got to the first game against Brum. Hopefully going to get up for the derby in January, but in answer to the original question, yes I do feel I am missing out as this is possibly the most exciting team Sunderland have had since I have supported them.

Was back for the Arsenal, WHU & Liverpool games which was great but quite honestly I get just as much of a buzz from seeing the Lads win on the box over here as I do at live games. As long as they are doing well I am happy.

Mind you, for years I have said that if we ever get into Europe I would attend the first game no matter who we are drawn against. Have started making discreet enquiries about flights between Jakarta and Azerbijan (you just know thats where we will end up)!!

My first post after a month's ban due to some bleating wanker running to the mods.
You have the honour of my untapped vitriol.
This thread reeks of your incomparable hypocrisy. You slavvery old twat.
For the rest of you.

ahh he is back

was maradonas kebab or des unavailable during the time of your banning ?

conveniently missed the mags game fall out but back after two wins on the trot

canny timing:lol:

Sydney fan is right of course. The best thing I ever did was move away 23 years ago. SAFC is by far the biggest miss along with family. When I was young nothing mattered more than SAFC. As you get older, things change. Having said that, nothing makes me happier than a SAFC win or goal, even now, and nothing can depress me more than a defeat. Although a Mak Maak/Riv post runs it close.

nailed on

u been in a time machine to monday nite

ok two wins and a draw:)

You were asking for opinions weren't you ...... or is it just opinions that agree with yours that can be posted?

pot and kettle there pal

Not really Chucky, I always invite people's opinions other than when they're blatant lies. It'd a discussion forum and, of course, other people's views are welcome.

My views seem to upset some people who hold grudges especially if they don't agree with theirs ........ you post some really decent stuff but you do have moments of blindness.

I fly back on Wednesday, but haven't missed many matches , seen them all on the net thanks to the links posted on here, cheers chaps !

Seen my team win at Wembley (73)
Seen my team play in Europe away (lisbon)
Would really consider a flying visit if it was a game for 1st/2nd finish to the premiership.
(ie:land on the Friday and out on the Mon/tues.)

I have to say I'm surprised at many people's views on England and how little they seem to like the place. I love going back, whatever the weather, and usually spend some time at Lindisfarne, the NE coast or the Dales.

I really enjoy the culture in the UK which I miss down here.
You can have as many 'traditional Irish/English bars as you like, in whatever country you like, but they're never as good.

Sweet , sweet irony. Nor sure if it was me , cannot remember, but I really hope it was.

I was home in August & September for the first time in 3 years and managed to get to 4 games. There is NOTHING like attending a game in person. I manage to see most games on line here in Trinidad but it's not the same as being there. I will be coming home eventually but until then I can only support from afar.

It's a great place to visit but its bloody depressing in the winter.

I love SAFC follwed them the length and breadth of the country back from around 88 till I left in 2005. I've been to 3 games since 2005.
Leeds - Boxing Day 06
Preston - Dec 06
Bolton - Nov 08
It's just too much money, mostly because my daughter now goes mad with me if I even talk about going back for a visit and not taking her.
I can see everygame live, either on TV or on Fox's streaming service so I'm there in spirit.
I miss the craic with the lads and my family but there's no way I'd move back.
Doesn't look like I'll be back for a visit for a while now either.

Got my cousins wedding in Brisbane, which I'm not sure we can afford.
A mates wedding in Vegas next year plus our lass wants to gan on a cruise.

Looks like I'll be watching the UEFA Cup campaigne on TV

Sadly that's true as much as I console myself with Sky/links etc.

Having a few pints amongst all those 'like-minded' people wearing red&white, walking up to the ground and cheering the Lads onto the pitch takes some beating ........ the feeling when we scored at Spurs couldn't be explained to anyone who hasn't experienced it.

I torment myself over every match going through Easyjet and BMI, over and over, until I convince myself one way or the other. I'd go to every match if I could and feel sick when I miss those like last week.

I agree with this 100%. I've met a lot of English expats here in Shanghai that complain about home endlessly and it drives me mad. I have a good life here and don't currently have any plans to move back permanently but I love coming home a couple of times a year. Real pubs, football, friends.

I'm back early December for a couple of weeks so going to Fulham and Bolton. Can't wait.
