Mine seems to have packed up at some point today and I was wondering if there were any gas fitters on here who could diagnose the problem.

Symptoms:
The electricity supply to the boiler seems to have been completely cut off.
The water is still flowing through the boiler.
I've tried changing the fuse but it made no difference.

Cheers in advance.

Any clue how to get to where id light it?

Would the pilot light affect the electricity supply?

The pilot light might go out if the leccys been cut off though, I don't know how you'd relight it mate they are all different?? don't you have the manual?

Could be the pilot, but, that depends on how old the combi is as most of the newer ones have electronic ignition and don't have a permanent pilot. Take the front case off the boiler (should be just a couple of screws) and the pilot should be visible through the inspection window.

If it's an older boiler with a perm pilot that won't stay lit it could be the thermocouple (basically a flame failure device) a probe which sits in the pilot flame and uses the heat to create a magnetic charge and hold open the gas valve. Not an expensive job and can be changed quickly.

Either that or it's fooked! ;0)

Which fuse did you change. The one in the Fused Spur or the internal one in the Boiler. If there is no signs of power I would check both fuses first. if your still not sure lick the live terminal. If you jump this will indicate that you have power at the boiler.

Right lads cheers for your help. I've managed to fix the little bastard. It was a case of locating the internal reset switch and simply pressing it.

There's a reset switch on the outside but that had been overridden by the internal one due to a probable overload on the circuit this morning.

Cheers again.

boilers dont as a rule lock out for no particular reason.
is there sufficient water in the system, have you got a prepay meter and run out of gas.
how old is the boiler the pump may be on the way out.

The water level is fine and i don't have a prepay meter. The boiler's 7 years old so it's in that range to break at any time.

I found a post on a random forum about my particular boiler and it seems that it's prone to an auto shutdown if there's a slight power surge. They recommended getting someone to service it just incase but no-one had actually found any reason after having it looked at. Most people seemed to think it was a simple power surge.

It's due a service anyway so i'll mention it at the time.

speaking of power surges, my leccys been going mad this weekend, flickering lights etc., and my sisters has gone off twice ( 2 miles away) wots gannin on like? shilling in the meter time or what?
