Do we need to pretend he’s good just because he’s young? Is there an age at which I am then allowed to voice in opinion on ability?
You’re entitled to your opinion of course, and for the record I never said he was good either in pretence or otherwise, his age has nothing to do with my personal opinion on his ability, but your “ he’s fairly shit” comment was way off the mark.

Quite comfortable with him as No1 currently, not sure how I'd feel about him being No1 in championship if we get there but his improvement game on game is there for all to see.

He’s fairly shit tbh. Doing an alright job for us but don’t really see why he’s starting over Hoffman, somethings clearly happened behind the scenes we aren’t aware of. I’d be surprised if he’s first choice next season, regardless of division.

He's miles better than Hoffman ever has been.

He's doing very well and is improving, after intiually struggling with crosses and then improving both his judgement and dealing with crosses, which with a young keeper is a very good sign.

Often and whats happened with Hoffman is young keepers come in and initially make good saves and come for everything. Very quickly they realise they simply cannot do that im senior football and judgement and getting it right become the most important thing in retaining confidence and their first team place.

Hoffmann struggled with it badly flapping allover the place and it affected his judgment and confidence that mostly he wouldn't go near a cross or a floated ball in the box. His distribution was also slow and sloppy.

Patterson made early flaps and then improved to the point he makes absolutely certain when he comes out and he does it far more than Hoffman does. He also deals with the ball back to him far better than Hoffmann.

In terms of saves Patterson also started quote slow, letting a few easier ones in and one straight through him, but has went on to make some cracking and important saves.

Hoffmann started by making one or two good saves and some good blocks and then almost anything on target was going in.

Patterson will have a career in England, Hoffmann might not as I can't see anyone being impressed or paying a fee for him over here.

Fairly shit you joker he's a kid who is going to be a top goalie

Worried.doesnt dominate his box or exude confidence rhat defenders need to feed off. Big Centre forwards will bully him ( eg Wycombe game in January) I also worry about his kicking. Not good enough ( yet?) IMHO. Hope he proves me wrong

And the relevance of this on Paterson’s ability is?

I think the fact he’s been back to Germany twice suggests not everything is rosey. Seems very odd and coincidental that both our Germans have been back for medical care within months of each other. Maybe that it is a genuine medical thing, of course. Who knows.
Both the Germans are poor and there are better players at the club in their positions. Quite simple really

He looked a bit flappy in this first couple of games. Don't remember him costing us any goals from it mind.

Can anyone remember Patterson being directly responsible for any goals? I can't and I'm usually really critical in that department.

Is he a future star or are you worried?

When I’ve seen him he looks very hesitant on crosses. Wednesday have scored a lot of goals from corners recently.

Big pressure match - it looks a big ask to me for a keeper with so little experience.

What do you think?
My Gravy detector is blipping

I quite like Hoffman and think under Neil he’d look better but he had a period of being very ropey, Steele or maybe even Camp ropey. Patterson has been consistently decent and rarely at direct fault for chances or goals. He has definitely benefited from a better organised side but he’s first choice on merit imo.

if you'd asked in january i would of said concerned. As of now - been one of our best players for months - i think he will be the best keeper on the pitch tonight
I agree and I thankfully decided to wait and see. He, like many young goalies, has more to learn and more experience to gather.

His distribution is improving and our better defence has allowed him to apply greater experience and what he has been taught by our staff..

He is becoming an increasingly reliable goalkeeper.
