Another teenager stabbed…

I assumed local and I'd reply it's been a while considering how many teens interact
Anyway its in Bournemouth

It is in Bournemouth yes.

Are you dismissing the importance because it’s happened far away?

There was a young lass stabbed to death in Hexham just a month ago.

So, one a month then ?

Out of a population of nearly 69 million, 12 a year is quite small numbers. A lot more people die on the roads or due to obesity related illnesses. The government should probably address these risks to the public first

…is this becoming more common or has it just become a bit of a moral panic? Was this happening 20, 30 years ago? What’s behind it?

I’d guess that drug dealing and social media feuds are probably more common now.

I would have thought you of all people would have the relevant stats to hand to answer your own questions if I’m honest.

I’ve no idea…

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more prevalent now. Social media keeps the chew 24/7 and often public, much more intense than 20+ year ago, people can lose a lot of face very quickly = chew.
Dunno how popular it is up here but I bet the grime/drill scene down south glamourises certain lifestyles and has a negative influence on young lads.

Definitely sounds like it’s becoming more common across the rest of the country now, with London having led the way.

Around where I live it's to do with drug dealers, there's been a few machete attacks in the last few months that hasn't been reported about in the media.

A lot of the victims seem to be kids from pretty grounded backgrounds too. I have 2 teens, both girls, and often discuss the worries of having kids with mates. My mates that have lads often talk about how this is something that worries them more than the obvious worries that come with having girls. However, it's becoming a lot less discriminatory.

We're discussing frequency aren't we ? Not how bad stabbing is

We probably just don't hear about the other ones, county lines will result in hundreds of kids being stabbed, maybe not killed but violence will be high amongst that group. As bad as it sounds, the press run these stories as people can relate, whereas if it was some 14 year old who ran away from home and started selling drugs most would just scan over it and say meh.

I grew up in late 90's early 00's and knives were never really a thing, was always just a fight and that's it solved, and I didn't exactly grow up in a nice part of Sunderland. Social media is probably the main reason though, people don't want to lose face, if you lost a fight when I was growing up it was all over school the next day then died down, I can imagine nowadays its on tiktok and whatever else for weeks going from 1 school to another in the area and people will get pointless reputations.

I've got to admit when reading these stories of stabbings and shootings initially being shocked thinking they are local then being quite ambivalent and meh when realising its Liverpool, London, Manchester (maybe not Bournemouth) it's just so common in other parts of the country its not shocking any more unless its happening up here.

Frequency, yes. Did I misunderstand your previous post in some way?
Sounds like it
I'd say it doesn't happen much
If it was local I'd say another one ,but it's been a while
But... it happened the other end of the country so like others have mentioned although not ideal it doesn't mean a lot regards happening more .
Tonight there's thousands of kids interacting with each other in the north east .

I’ve nothing to back this idea up but I feel that when I was a kid, anyone who was stupid enough to have a blade had something smaller like a Stanley or general slashing tool. With access to the internet imagine it’s way to get more deadly stabbing blades

Try almost one a day.
