Another summer of terrible recruitment

Where’s the goalscorer we were desperate for? Where are wingers with pace? Where’s the goalscoring creative midfielder we need? Where is the natural right back and a left back who can defend? Seems very much a case of 3rd time lucky with same plodders. Why haven’t we been transfer listing a few players such as Wyke?
We as a club say what we need pace attacking midfielders etc at the end of every Season and yet we never address it. Totally baffling.

Because of Covid and fall in interest it’s been overlooked how shit our recruitment has been again and the lack of goals in the team

The club might get lucky with some of the youngsters showing early promise, although the opposition in pre-season have been awful. I really hope we don’t go into the first few games with Dobson and Power in the centre of midfield, the very definition of “workmanlike”. Any inclination to get forward and support the attack has been well and truly drilled out of them by Ross and dour Phil.

Some youthful naivety in the shape of Neil could be just what we need, as odd as that sounds.

The lad made an horrendous mistake on his debut.

It happens. Just look at Kirchoff on his debut. Numpties on here were saying he should never play again.

Don't be like them, marra. Just wait and see.

Steele did the same against Celtic...it only got worse.

Odd to some, total sense to others. We've got some promising youngsters in Neil and Diamond, Bailey wright and Scowen were good signings and I'd wager O'Brien will be as well. Arbenit from Kosovo also looks a good defender, we get him and there isn't a lot wrong.

Don't think the defence is much better off. Better than the start of last year due to having bailey Wright, but no change from Jan
Bailey Wright counts as a new player. I am also confident Feeny will be better than ozturk. The Kosovan (if he signs) will probably trump lynch as well.

Gerra grip.

The squad looks decent for this league, if grigg can start firing he will make a difference. And he looks a lot fitter and focused so far. Plus he wants more players in
How is it decent? It’s very similar to last season’s when we didn’t even make the play offs

Tim hat on, but is our summer recruitment that terrible? Compared to the rest of League One?

Just watched the highlights of the Harrogate match. It may be skewed in favour of our highlights but a comfortable win with high xG.
Grigg from Neil was just one of many goal scoring opportunities.

Can't say im surprised since the fraud said he would continue to provide money for signings, we haven't signed a single player for a fee.

I've asked this, as a genuine question, a number of times on here but haven't got an answer, but what's this based on?

I thought he had a reasonable reputation in this regard. I always thought his Bradford team had a fair few youngsters. He was willing to give Pickford a big opportunity, Billy Knott was a mainstay of his side etc. Then at Bolton he brought a few through too didn't he? Granted that may have been born out of necessity rather than choice with their embargoes.

Mind, even if that is the case, the pressures here and the remit given by the ownership do decrease the likelihood of him giving youth a chance unfortunately.

this is based in my experience with his time at Bolton.
my mates son played under him.
he has told me that this was the case.

when he left Bolton had little choice but there are some cracking young players there but none came through under him.

we will see this season is he develops the exciting ones that he has got now.
hope he proves us wrong.

Bring in an attacking midfielder with pace and a useful out and out striker and I definitely agree with you.

AOB decent
Wright decent
Feeney okay
Mathews horrific
Danny Graham horrific
No creative midfielder

the last 3 are the most important imo and we’ve failed massively
Matthews horrific? What is that based on what did u expect from a second choice goalie signing.
Some folk need to get a real grip. We are in league one, there is a salary gap, pandemic etc. We have on the whole retained our better players, wright and o'Brien have championship experience and should be upgrades. Feeney is a young kid with potential and the Kosovo defender could potentially be a real find. We need something different up top but getting good strikers at this level is v, v hard. If they were any good, a championship club would be in for them.We may have to hope Grigg comes good.
