Annual pay rise lottery

That's crazy, You should asked to be bought out of the 'bonus scheme' and give reasons for the request i.e. no targets have been met in 12 years, no staff involvement in achieving the target etc

Makes me realise how fortunate I am, Hope you get sorted.
Only way it will get sorted is if someone else takes over the contract.

The current holders (French company who will remain nameless) have lied to the workforce from day one of them winning the contract.

They run a 'Great Place To Work' survey every year and seem constantly amazed at the slating they receive every time. Nothing ever gets done about it, though. They just counter the criticism with things like "Well, we scored highly in things like 'providing a safe work environment'. Yeah! It's against the law not to, you f@cking French loons".

The previous contract holders (German company) ran a 'Wellbeing at Work' week where they provided things like free Spa treatments, massages, free gourmet buffets every day, stuff like that. They also ran a free raffle and gave away prizes like 50-inch Plasma TVs, high-end stereos, kitchen equipment etc.

The current lot also run a 'Wellbeing at Work' week which consists of them sending an email with a list of work-related courses you might like to attend.

A lad I work with got a notification on the 10th anniversary of him starting that there was an award for him on the company benefits website. When he logged in, expecting a voucher or something, he found he had been awarded a 'learning snack'. I mean, what the f@ck is a 'learning snack'?

Jesus christ

When you say 'won the contract' does this have an expiry before it's back up for tender or are they just essentially your permanent employer for the foreseeable?

We got 10% last year after a decade of stagnating wage rises 1%, 1.5% etc. The company has been bought out recently and the new guy in charge reckons theres ’absolutely no chance of any pay rise this year’ so can see trouble ahead. Think our negotiations start in April.

The current contract was up for renewal in 2024, but we've just had it confirmed that it is being extended until 2026 and then yearly after that as the bids received when it was put out for tender aren't viable or acceptable to the Government department whose contract we work on.

Just trying to keep my nose clean until 2026 as that's what looks like the best time for me to retire.

The union rejected the June 2022 pay award, which has been imposed anyway, so on 1st February we have an all-member walkout.

Problem is some companies genuinely can’t afford to pay 10% especially if inflation is increasing other costs also , in those situations striking could in end lead to redundancies . They expect inflation to gradually start falling later this year and be around 5% next . Time will tell

had a nice surprise last week when i opened the paynote. worked out at 20% on the basic and 4% on overtime.
we got a good rise during the pandemic but this was quite unexpected. the boss/owner never said anything but said he'd managed to get a good rise in the rates from the customers we work for so passed some of it on to us.

It's always difficult going through an acquisition as it means grades, pay and benefits getting aligned to the parent company scales.

We got bought out 4 years ago and went through the TUPE process. Benefits and bonuses have been better but annual pay rises have been minimal and promotions harder to get. My boss has nominated me for a grade increase for the third year running. If don't get it this year then I will have to think about moving on.
