Anichebe

When we never signed a striker in the window I knew we would sign Anichebe because his availability and history with Moyes. Like most people I was underwhelmed at taking a punt at a freebie but unlike most people, I never said he was shite. He's as strong as a bull and has been unplayable at times over the years I've watched him on tele. His goalscoring record is poor, can't get away from that. He's very inconsistent too which hasn't been helped by his tendency to pick up injuries. I hope he can improve his goalscoring record with us and he matures into a more consistent performer. Its too early to say he's turned the corner but hasn't he been impressive!

A forward who keeps the ball in the opposition half is what we have been missing for many years.
My only criticism of Moyes is using him in defensive situations like free kicks. He needs to left up field and used as an outlet to relieve pressure on the defence. To be fair Moyes may only be using him near the end of games in defensive positions to hold onto a game. Keep him up field though I say that is where he has the most effect on the game.

Good post this, only thing I'd add is many supporters were expecting a forward to come in for decent money in the summer and that didn't happen. We then signed Vic which made the signing look worse than it actually was to some people, I think even if we had brought in another striker we'd probably still have signed VA
Agree with that, however I'm not one who expected a big money striker, primarily since we don't have the money but also because I don't think spending big on a striker is necessarily what we needed to do, we needed to get the right one. Benteke's a good example actually, he's grossly overpriced and although he's decent I don't think I'd be any happier signing him than I was Anichebe.

To be honest I'd have been happier if we'd spent the money on getting M'Vila and Ndong and then getting Anichebe on a free.

Can't believe anyone would actually take this f***ing lump of shite. I'd rather play with 1 man less.

We have players who could fill in as a striker who are better than this turd and who don't even play that position.

"Was" shit as my statement is past tense. As I said on the available evidence he seemed a very poor signing for us. With the benefit of hindsight I will happily state that he's not shit at all for us and is indeed a key player.

When I'm not getting paid for supposedly working I'll have a look.
Good stuff owld fella. Surely the evidence of the last few years shows that every time you really go off the deep end over a signing he turns out to be a little bit of a cracker. You did Kirchoff and Kone to an extent too iirc. By this point we should be thanking you;)

If we stay up and anichebe reverts to form ie injured and goalless so be it
He has galvanised a lot of fans and even the team with his attitude and playing style. I was dismayed when we signed him but he has proven most of us wrong. Good on him.
Hopefully he and defoe will have a positive impact on asoro because between them they epitomise what fans want from their front men

no it wasn't, it was very much present tense. You said "He IS shit", not "He USED TO BE shit", nor "He WAS shit but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt". You were categorical in his shit-ness, no room for manoeuvre.

For every punt like Anachibe you have Scocco, Diakite, Roberge, Altidore and Rodwell.

People were more than warranted to question the signing TBH.
Did moyes bring all of them in like?

He's been decent but I wouldn't get carried away yet , creates space for Defoe and can chip in with few goals , it's vital both him and Defoe don't get injured

What a day that was. From the moment the ref blew the whistle for the minute silence and all you could hear was the Anichebe song from underneath the stand it was Victors day

I remember some old fella shouting down to the concourse for the lads to shut up ..... surprise surprise it just made them sing louder

They had no idea there was a minute's silence going on.

People keep dredging these threads up but at different times, more or less every player on our books has been widely described as sh*t on here. Djilobodji was the worst central defender we've ever had, just two months ago: now he's the second coming. I have even seen some love for Love over the past couple of days. It's like Bipolar City in here, depending on the result.

FFS, someone was even trying to have a ga'an at Defoe after Saturday's match.

Whilst I wish people weren't so kneejerk; dredging up these threads just to belittle people - when in most cases the people bumping them are just as guilty - is just ridiculous.

There were very few of us who were champing at the bit at the prospect of Anichebe signing. We've all learned that he's far better than even those of us who thought he might be ok believed he could be. Let's hope it continues and stop bumping threads just to belittle other posters, eh?

You just know that somewhere along the line Dodgy called VA "shit" *smiley*

TBH it's about time there was a 'turd' icon so some people don't have to type out the word 'shit' every time we sign someone or he plays his first game.

For the umpteenth time, what we should learn from this is never to judge a player until he's here and settled.

There are quite a lot on here who were happy to get him mind.
Posts like the above were rare
