Anichebe

You said, and I quote . He has categorically proven that to be incorrect. Or do you still stand by it?

"Was" shit as my statement is past tense. As I said on the available evidence he seemed a very poor signing for us. With the benefit of hindsight I will happily state that he's not shit at all for us and is indeed a key player.

Please do. I'd be very confident.

When I'm not getting paid for supposedly working I'll have a look.

His performance at Bournemouth was fantastic, defenders were bouncing off him. Right on the final whistle seeing him holding off three defenders shielding the ball was marvellous and the kind of thing Benteke should be doing for Palarse but is too lazy. We've got a player, for no outlay and I'd imagine not on a daft salary either.

I thought it was an ok signing and he would be used mainly as backup or an option off the bench, In didn't expect him to be playing as regular or doing as well. I think the signing of VA got slagged off so much because we didn't get another striker in beforehand and our dealings in the window looked quite poor at the time

I really like VA so far but as I said in an earlier post we NEED to keep him fit, hopefully playing more and more as a starter will help with that though

To be fair mate I don't think you have ever said anything bad about anyone associated with SAFC ever ;)

Fair one, but if I don't know I keep quiet - I wouldn't talk up a signing I knew nowt about. People slating Anichebe to the degree they did clearly didn't know anything about him but it didn't stop them slating the lad and the club for his signing.

It is easy with hindsight - but common football sense always says that a big, strong forward alongside the fox in the box is an interesting duo - remember Toshack & Keegan or a certain Quinn & Philips. Just glad that Anichebe seems to be relishing the second chance Moyes has given him.

I thought it was an ok cover signing, nothing more. I thought we'd do well to keep him fit and he'd play every now and then off the bench meaning he'd just be a 'body' for the squad

I doubt many would have described VA as 'good' when we signed him like, even the ones who were ok or even pleased with it

However it is great to see his signings start and do well, I would have looked at different players than he did but it's gone now. After reading up on things since Bain came in I think I was a bit harsh on Moyes over his transfers in the summer

Remember going out and celebrating in town when he signed on the Friday night. Hasn't let us down.

Proud to say I was there when he scored his first goal. Vic

Glad to see him doing his thing on Saturday. Fending off players, creating space.

Been a revelation really hasn't he!

People keep dredging these threads up but at different times, more or less every player on our books has been widely described as sh*t on here. Djilobodji was the worst central defender we've ever had, just two months ago: now he's the second coming. I have even seen some love for Love over the past couple of days. It's like Bipolar City in here, depending on the result.

FFS, someone was even trying to have a ga'an at Defoe after Saturday's match.

Whilst I wish people weren't so kneejerk; dredging up these threads just to belittle people - when in most cases the people bumping them are just as guilty - is just ridiculous.

There were very few of us who were champing at the bit at the prospect of Anichebe signing. We've all learned that he's far better than even those of us who thought he might be ok believed he could be. Let's hope it continues and stop bumping threads just to belittle other posters, eh?

For every punt like Anachibe you have Scocco, Diakite, Roberge, Altidore and Rodwell.

People were more than warranted to question the signing TBH.

Anichebe was a lot less of a risk financially than any of them though. It would have been a far bigger punt to go for Ulloa, Naismith or even Bony, which is what most of the board wanted us to do at the time.

There was a massive overreaction on here to what was, money wise, the most sensible signing we could have made at that time.

Dear oh dear ....... here's my advice mate.
  1. Calm down
  2. Go back and look why the thread was bumped.
  3. Wonder why you took the time to type out all that nonsense.
  4. Admit you've had a total mare.
  5. Post summat funny.

I agree with his sentiment. Too many kids on this forum, nothing is done about it or can't be.

My point is that the people he is talking about must be kids given their sudden change of heart. Adults do not think lke that, unless they are thick as shit. Understand?

Whatever the case I didn't realise there was a statute of limitations on responding to posts ...... when does a response become a bump?

In any case there's a simple solution ..... if you don't want your thoughts to be visible don't post them.

Anichebe proving better value than Ulloa would have been.

disagree with Rodwell being a punt

10m on a midfielder from a top side isnt a punt

just a terrible signing

also, Anichebe wasn't coming from a foreign league. was a no brainer signing imo

i too wanted another striker in also but as well know, Moyes only has whats down the back of the office sofa to spend. Even if we did, bringing him in is something we should have done anyway

I was ok with the signing as I liked the idea of him and Defoe as a pair with Borini and Khazri or Watmore to potentially join them. After hearing him talk in his interview about one of the reasons for coming being to play with Defoe I was strangely positive. My concerns were about how much time he would actually get on the pitch as at that time the generally accepted wisdom was that Defoe played better on his own, so it wasn't a given that Moyes would go down the 2/3 up front route at all. As it happens it may be that injuries have forced him to go that way, we'll never know I suppose. Injuries and past form were a concern but I was confident he was still a good player. It's odd because at the end of the window I was fuming and certain we were in big trouble due to the M'Vila and Kaboul fiascos, they were the things that really pissed me off about the last window, not the signing of Anichebe. If anything signing him was a small glimmer of hope in an otherwise very shit time.

I'm not sure Benteke is lazy. He is a better goal scorer than Big Vic but he lacks in just about every other area.
Big Vic for me is naturally stronger and faster and is more aggressive. Vic comes across as a pleasant bloke but still waters run deep as they say he is a beast on the pitch and uses his aggression in an intelligent way. What Vic is good at is holding the ball up, he has been for a very long time its just injuries have got in the way. He needs to score more no question but I doubt he will get many this season playing on the left. If he can give us 5-6 goals that will be converted to a few wins due to our defence now starting to look solid.
Vic looks the perfect fit for our club just as Defoe does.

I'd go along with that.

Good post this, only thing I'd add is many supporters were expecting a forward to come in for decent money in the summer and that didn't happen. We then signed Vic which made the signing look worse than it actually was to some people, I think even if we had brought in another striker we'd probably still have signed VA
