Threads are usually bumped when people get things wrong and end up looking daft.

In the spirit of Christmas I'll be bumping posts like this as it looked quite a brave prediction and stuck in my mind.

At the time everything was total gloom and many were explaining, to us poor souls, how Palace were 'leaving us standing'.

I dread to think of the Benteke threads if we'd forked out £32 million

cheers Reiver!

glad the (only?) one I got right has been highlighted haha

I have always had the feeling with Benteke that he thinks he has "made it" and doesn't put the shift in.

also, for a lad of his size he is soft and no where near physical enough (although how many big strikers can we say that of?) £32m was ridiculous money

Fair's fair mate, it's easy to bump 'failed' predictions.

You could easily be describing Kenwyn Jones, Wickham, Graham, Fletcher ...... Jones is one of only 2 Sunderland players I've booed in over 40 years.

Not because of a missed chance, poor result, etc ...... but because he didn't try in a game and didn't care who knew.

Hi Alf. Anything more you would like to add? ;)

Great when smug people dig up these old threads with the benefit of hindsight. All credit to the lad for the way he's applied himself and to Moyes for being brave enough to bring him here probably knowing it would be an unpopular signing but haway...his time at West Brom was very poor and only marginallly better at Everton. I stand by what I said at the time but accept that he's done extremely well for us.

You said, and I quote
"He's shit man"
. He has categorically proven that to be incorrect. Or do you still stand by it?

you sound a bit bitter there like
would you rather you were right and he turned out to be shit just so you look clever?

Give owa man. You put yourself out there saying he was definitely and categorically 'shit' and don't like it when you get shown up to be a plank. How can you stand by what you said it the time? - you said he was shit, he isn't

We have all done it - me plenty of times but don't get all precious when you are proven to be wrong.

I still think that certain managers seem to be able to get the best out of certain players. It's strange because he's shown all the attributes of a player Pulis would love.

He was shit on all available evidence which is all you can base your opinion on IN REAL TIME. Of course hindsight allows a more considered opinion but I would say about 80% of us were against the signing. No problem at all saying I was wrong and I said that in the post you replied to.....all credit to Anichebe and Moyes.

You've completely missed the reason for the bump, it has nothing to do with Anichebe

How do I sound bitter?

I fully acknowledged the player and manager for making the signing work....let's hope I call more wrong as it means the club benefits.

This 100%, I also think the fans taking to Vic so quickly has helped him a lot. He'll be chuffed with his name getting chanted as I doubt that has happened much at his previous clubs. We also like the type of player he is, for all we want us to be a good footballing side we love the physical side of it up here

Sorry marra, I just responded to the reply I got.....so please inform me why it was bumped....save me trawling through the whole thread ;)

Tell you what shocked me....this season is the first time in his career that he has started three games consecutively

I know it's an effort but if you can manage to 'trawl' to the top of the page you'll find it ;)

I ncidentally perhaps you can explain why it's such a problem with someone 'bumping a thread'.

It's a forum for opinions & banter and the only thing that matters is what's said ..... besides a bump is just a delayed response.

No he wasn't, hence why 20% (by your estimate) weren't against the signing. Some of us don't need the benefit of hindsight to have 'a more considered opinion'.

I didn't know that, it's surprising even for his reputation of not being able to stay fit or play to a good level consistently. Long may the starts continue as he is key at the moment, if we can keep him fit he is one of the first names on the team sheet and that can only be a good thing for his consistency. I just hope we can keep the lad fit

His performance at Bournemouth was fantastic, defenders were bouncing off him. Right on the final whistle seeing him holding off three defenders shielding the ball was marvellous and the kind of thing Benteke should be doing for Palarse but is too lazy. We've got a player, for no outlay and I'd imagine not on a daft salary either.
