If we'd had him to come on against Southampton we might have 2 more points.

If nothing else he can hold the ball and keep defenders occupied.

But there's no reason he can't chip in with goals if we can get the likes of Watmore, PVA, Januzaj getting behind defences and cutting the ball back.

He's not afraid of getting in the box and has a decent shot on him.
You know your stuff
I think you bumped this thread so your faith and good judgement would be noticed !;)

Dear oh dear ....... here's my advice mate.
  1. Calm down
  2. Go back and look why the thread was bumped.
  3. Wonder why you took the time to type out all that nonsense.
  4. Admit you've had a total mare.
  5. Post summat funny.
If a mate in the pub had said 2 years ago that Defoe was past it and a complete mercenary we'd all be laughing and reminding him of it weeks/months/years down the line. He'd no doubt laugh at himself and just admit he'd had a complete mare. Same rules here imo.

TBH I knew I'd get flak from people whinging about nasty types who bump threads to humiliate people

Nice that a respected poster like yersel recognise my inner goodness

Doesn't often happen on here as you know.

People come on shouting the odds, are proved 100% wrong and don't have the balls to apologise.

That's why these forums attract the weak, the sly & the hypocritical ..... they know they can just slink off to convince themselves they're still right.

Then they harbour a grudge, come back later seething to get revenge, fuck it up, get proved wrobg and so it goes on ;)

He's been decent but I wouldn't get carried away yet , creates space for Defoe and can chip in with few goals , it's vital both him and Defoe don't get injured

It's more than that, he's our main outlet. Makes the most of Pickford's accurate kicking, and overs up for the fact that we don't play it through midfield very well.

There's questioning and there's immediately writing off and posting unnecessarily negative shite tbf.

I get that but there is some on here who would never question a signing just because he is signing for Sunderland. Of that same player woukd sign for Newcastle they would then change their tune and say it was shite etc.

I can only speak for myself but, although I question our signings, I always want them to do well.

My problem is with people who proudly declare a player 'shite' and cringe when they're proved wrong.

To me that's putting themselves before the club so I can't respect them.

It's easy for them to come back on a dozen times saying they were right but seemingly impossible to admit they were wrong.

And quite a few do the opposite.

Cabella, Thauvin, Shelvey and many others were massively lauded on here, most vocally by those that rarely have anything positive to say about SAFC.

I must admit to never slagging a signing off prior to giving him a chance to prove himself here. I don't see much wrong with that mind.

I couldn't give 2 fucks who the mags do or don't sign tbh. (Apart from when they signed Jacky boy. That amused me greatly).

Can't believe anyone would actually take this f***ing lump of shite. I'd rather play with 1 man less.

We have players who could fill in as a striker who are better than this turd and who don't even play that position.

I know, I know, benefit of hindsight but

He will be the same as Ndoye. That's the problem. We got ourselves in this mess and just have to accept and hope he can 'do a job'. It's just a shambles to be fair. I do now think the people who said Palace were a small club are mental. Remy and Benteke as striking options and we have to make do with this lad.

On a non-piss taking basis, it's amazing to see our two strikers, who didn't cost anything and those two... and there's only a point between us.

Fair points. W

It is. Very much so.

I give my opinion on the player irrelevant if he is signing or not for us. Try to be objective. Is he a good signing for us or not etc.

I wasn't particularly talking about you tbh. I was more referring to the constant slagging off of our possible/current/future signings before they've even been given more than half an hour away as a sub to a team like Spurs. What's the point? Desperate to be proven right? I just don't understand the mindset. There's no way of knowing whether a signing will be a good one for us so I don't see the point in having a guess based on next to nowt.

Equally there are plenty who laud every Mag signing as world class when they normally end up shite , panicking in case we are 'losing the window'. Most signings by both sides are a shite waste of money in truth.

It's this, and more.

Typically, Pickford will kick and Victor will trap and hold the ball on about five occasions in each half. Even if the subsequent moves do not result in a goal (obviously, this is the more normal outcome), at least it mostly results in play in the opponents' half for a minute or more. It may sound negative, but that means the oppos can't score in that time.

Without Anichebe, at best Defoe is bundled off the ball, and within 20 seconds our defence is having to cope with another attack.

Sure, we may thwart it, but it comes down to simple statistics. This extra 4-5 attacks created for us, and 4-5 attacks denied that would have come against us, makes a huge difference to the chances of winning the game, or at least, not losing it.

I think there are a lot of people (on both sides of this argument, and on many other similar threads) who regularly take the importance of their own views on an internet message board far too seriously. Some people genuinely seem to believe that there are hundreds of people hanging on their every word as gospel, or seem to be in a competition for credibility and relevance in their lives by trying to 'win' arguments about football on the internet.

Whether someone was right or wrong about the signing of a player, on post 267, on one of hundreds of threads a day on an internet message board, three months ago, very few people will remember, and hardly any will care, whether you are now looking to say I told you so about a post you once got right on the internet a few months ago, or whether you feel the need frantically to justify your argument.

It's a similar phenomenon to sad old gits ringing up football phone ins and saying 'Marco / Ando, you may remember that I rang up a few months ago to put on record my thoughts about Anichebe / Yedlin / whoever.' No, barely anybody remembered your opinion at the point at which you put the phone down.

I'd said yesterday or the day before I'd take him rather than spunking money on Naismith. You'd get two or three games out of him per season when he looked like Drogba and 15 where he looked like Altidore, but for a season he's big and puts himself about and would help.

Still waiting of him to look like Altidore tbf

I've found my niche market....

And don't forget M'Vila....
How did you rate Papy , N'Dong and Love?
No offence but I hope you rate them in the shit category as it bodes well for these players if you did.

I take it you made a bad judgement call on a player and somebody pulled you up on it.
Also it's a lengthy post for somebody who hardly cares.
