Angela Lowes gone

Fair point but there's been several examples over the years of the club making poor financial decisions that probably fell outside of Short's willingness to fund transfers etc. If the plant pot story is true then I would have thought the FD should have been aware and cut that out before Donald rocked up. Same for the six figure cryotherapy unit nobody was using. Making a loss on the concerts etc.

Totally agree, at best it looks like she's been happy to take the money and sit back while others make terrible decisions.
I agree with the plants, can only assume the medical football side were given a budget, bigger than they should have, bu the sounds of it.

I hope she writes a book about what she saw at the club. She must know where all the bodies are buried.

At most companies the FD is the #2, or at least # 3 in the business after the CEO. I've always wondered how she escaped censure for the financial and legal shit-show that went on under Drumaville, then Short then the Chuckle Brothers. Either she had a hand in all the bad decisions made, or she was kept out of the loop and just kept score of the finances after the fact, but either way it doesn't scream high performing FD.
Was just about to post the same...a penny for her thoughts, never mind ex players etc etc this is the person I would most like to hear a podcast from.

Why they couldn’t release a statement of thanks similar to this for John Cooke who made 1000x the contribution to SAFC Angela Lowes did remains a mystery.
Never met the bloke in my life before someone comments, ‘alright John’.
I can only imagine Angela has some serious dirt on the running of SAFC to have survived as long as she has. Someone with grade G at GCSE Maths could have negotiated the last 20 years as financial director of SAFC with less fuck ups.

All those people who have been stealing a living at the club for years are gradually getting wheeled out and it's great to see.

Most FDs I worked for never prepared a spreadsheet, unless it was to analyse some other data prepared by someone else. They spent a hell of a lot of time reviewing spreadsheets prepared by other people though (or, more accurately, printouts - it's difficult to write "Rubbish - see me" in red ink on a spreadsheet with the requisite venom)
Most FDs (and accountancy firm partners) I’ve experienced wouldn’t have the first clue how to operate a spreadsheet, that’s what spreadsheet geeks like me are for.

I worked for an assistant FD who used to recreate the management accounts in Word to do his own analysis on them rather than either doing the analysis himself in Excel or getting one of his members of staff to create a spreadsheet to run his analysis for him.

But she'd never been an FD. Her appointment notice at CH described her as a "financial accountant". Without going into too much jargon, that, for me, is a red flag. FA's are technicians who put accounts together. It's possibly the least important part of an FD's skillset. Most have a background in financial control and treasury.

she was just in the right place at the right time in my opinion. Ellis Short showed the same with our ex Commercial Director. I think she was the only one there to be put into that position "on the cheap".

Unsurprised. Treuer, as a proper CFO, will have seen through her in minutes. I'm sure she's a competent technician, but that's not the primary role of an FD. An FD has to be able to tell general management when their proposals won't work; the main reason accountants are unpopular is our tendency to raise inconvenient truths. All I'll say is that the transfer policies from Keane onwards should have been closely questioned over how the costs were ever supposed to be recovered. As far as I can see, managers were simply given carte blanche to overpay for players with no resale value instead.

Football clubs aren't run like other businesses though. Take the Will Grigg fiasco, all done on a whim while Donald and his pal are chilling out late in the evening. I imagine very few clubs have expectation of being profitable, most owners are in it for the fun/prestige.

Harsh to criticise someone’s abilities and performance from the outside. She’s worked there for 20 years under different owners, no one knows what her specific remit was and how much influence she carried. It’s clear that KLD wants his own people around him. His family clearly have a history of business success, here’s hoping it can be brought to SAFC.

They really aren't. Complex is operating is more than 20 countries in a sector like retail or services involving multiple branches in each territory. Chuck in some manufacturing and it gets very complex very fast. In one job, I was reviewing nearly 30 sets odf management accounts every month.

Slightly disagree having had some involvement with a Premier League club, player acquisition, particularly overseas loans is complex.

As a general point, from my experience, clubs run their back office as slim as possible and don't pay well so there is a lack of quality of clubs.

By the looks of it, there'll be few if any of the old guard left, a clearout of which is long overdue.

Well done KLD.
cant really think of much left who remain.

the chefs at the AOL, Dickman manager of the U23’s Taylor & Butler in the coaching set up.

There's probably a tier under board level which will see some winnowing, particularly on the sales and marketing side.

Murray, Fickling, Featherstone, Bain, De Fanti, Congerton, Donald, Methven, Short, Sartori, Hutchison, Sloanes, Andersson, Fox, Farnham etc all fair game though.

Any mention of Lowes, Callaghan or Byrne though.......

It's a complex contract, but the level of overall complexity isn't that high compared, say, to trying to export something post-Brexit (or outside the EU pre-Brexit).
