They really aren't. Complex is operating is more than 20 countries in a sector like retail or services involving multiple branches in each territory. Chuck in some manufacturing and it gets very complex very fast. In one job, I was reviewing nearly 30 sets odf management accounts every month.
That's fair comment, but let's not pretend football is a simple industry.

Like shite man, its just a bigger spreadsheet. Finance types make it out to be hard and the world ends every month end. Its a spreadsheet mate.

You raise a valid point that she was not actually FD at Dewhirst. But she wasn't hired directly from Dewhirst to FD at Sunderland - she was appointed to the boards of the various SAFC companies between 2010 - 2016. So I would imagine she went from financial accountant to financial controller to FD, which is not an unusual route. Certainly a more reasonable elevation over ten years than going from criminal lawyer to company secretary to CEO inside of three years...

Most FD's I know went from senior manager roles in public practice straight into a financial controller role and then to FD, but if you leave public practice straight after qualifying then you're probably going to start off in a financial or management accountant role.

Except she was described as "financial accountant" at the time she was appointed to the board, not "financial controller". At various times I've been a financial accountant. chief accountant, and financial controller. My responsibilities in each of those jobs was different (though less difference between chief accountant and FC than might be thought).

did you used to be an accountant?

I was equally as buzzing to see Rodwell go.

Exactly. Some are incredibly quick to jump in effectively accusing the fans of sexism. The fact is we're at our lowest ever ebb due to decisions taken by wave after wave of "senior management". I'm trying really hard here, but I can't think of a single person in that bracket who has left and who people have said "shame, think s/he was good". Rodwell, Bain, Reid, Hill, Byrne, Short, De Fanti, Congerton, Donald, Methven, f***ing too many to remember over the last ten years. The only one who I think has had a decent reaction is Sartori when stepping down as a director. And that's probably just because people thought he likely never did anything anyway

It's a weird one. I'm fairly sure that a lot of opinions on Ms Lowes over the years started from a position of misogyny. It was the same with Byrne on here tbh. All that being said, it turned out that Byrne was terrible at her job. So, right answer - wrong reasons can't be ruled out.
The bottom line in simplistic terms of this departure/sacking is that KLD and the big hitters who have come into SAFC with him, like the Louis Dreyfus business empire Chief Financial Officer Patrick Treuer have spent considerable time already analysing why our club has been generally run so appallingly [our third tier status emphasises that!] and are going to lose people who, in their professional opinion, are not up to their standards. People of this calibre will be going through the club forensically at every level.

The pace of change at the club on and off the pitch already clearly suggests that the new incumbents are big hitters who aren't here to mess about and know that run properly we have excellent top flight potential.

There are, and have been, many people working at SAFC in recent decades who,for a variety of reasons, were not fit for purpose. Again, our current lowly status illustrates this fact vividly.

She has done a decent job in difficult working conditions. Not many perform to their very best when they are badly managed.

Enough different people could have removed her over the last few years if they thought she was bad at her job.

However I do think though she is completely replaceable, not different to people in her position at similar size businesses. I am of the opinion that a new broom is needed in order to change the culture of the club from top to bottom.

The situation is not even comparable to the one with Cooke so drawing comparisons is very unhelpful.

Described where? In the director appointment form? I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what they say, people write all sorts of drivel in the "occupation" box. She's probably not filling those forms in herself.

In fairness I don't know what roles she held or what specific responsibilities she had in her ascent to FD at SAFC. And from the evidence we have she may well have been fulfilling a financial accounting role under an overly grand title for her whole time as FD. However we are off on a wild tangent from the original point, which was the fact that she was an accountant at Dewhirst does not necessarily mean she was unqualified to eventually become FD of a football club.

Or

it could be that she was a soft touch ,so to speak.

The chancers will follow soon I reckon..... The mindset of our club has changed...
There's probably a clause in the contract that allows for them to be stripped naked, tarred & feathered and fired into the sea on a giant wooden catapult, that they haven't read or properly understood.
