I doubt she had much influence at all beyond producing the excel files that showed everyone how bad it was. At which point they ignored it.
Pretty much this. I worked for a firm where 3 of the partners were Finance Directors at 3 different football clubs and I worked quite closely with one of them.

Basically we would produce projections, budgets etc, produce them to the board and the board would comment and make the decision. At the largest of the 3 clubs the majority shareholder basically held the purse strings so the advice basically fell on deaf ears until the investor pulled out and shit hit the fan. They had more clout at the other clubs.

@Grumpy Old Man

Unsurprised. Treuer, as a proper CFO, will have seen through her in minutes. I'm sure she's a competent technician, but that's not the primary role of an FD. An FD has to be able to tell general management when their proposals won't work; the main reason accountants are unpopular is our tendency to raise inconvenient truths. All I'll say is that the transfer policies from Keane onwards should have been closely questioned over how the costs were ever supposed to be recovered. As far as I can see, managers were simply given carte blanche to overpay for players with no resale value instead.

Looks as if she has fallen on her sword. She will probably be on a 'silence' clause not to give details.

Can't imagine her being a magician with the budget and hierarchy above her over recent seasons.

I don't think her CV before SAFC is the issue. Football clubs are not especially large or complex businesses to run the finances of - the football is the difficult bit. She was Big 6 trained and Dewhirst had a higher turnover and more staff than SAFC.

But she'd never been an FD. Her appointment notice at CH described her as a "financial accountant". Without going into too much jargon, that, for me, is a red flag. FA's are technicians who put accounts together. It's possibly the least important part of an FD's skillset. Most have a background in financial control and treasury.

Without knowing a single thing about her I’m pretty confident this is a good thing. The state of our finances over the last 10 years can’t have gone over the head of the finance director

Are they not?

Exactly.

Good. Don't know anything about her tbh, maybe she was good at what she did, but the fact she stayed whilst so many other roles changed several times over with several owners suggests she might have been a bit of a yes person. Just think we're best with a completely clean slate
Playing devil's advocate, using the same reasoning with getting rid of John Cooke probably wouldn't have been too popular on here.

I agree with your general point though. Some times I don't really care if there's 80% bad and 20% good, just replace the entire thing and start afresh even if there were bits that don't necessarily need to be removed.
