...has increased his loan spell at Sheff Utd till 3rd Jan. Is this a wise move? Was defo one of our better players last season before he got injured and i think a left side of Rico at LB and him on LW would be lethal.

And yet has a far better record of creating goals and goalscoring chances.

Malbranque is better at holding the ball, turning and creating space for others but Reid is the far better goalscorer/crosser.

I reckon this is Brucie's way of putting him in the shop window, to try and get atleast some transfer fee in January before his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Steed Malbranque:

Games: 81(9)
Goals: 2
Assists: 13

Andy Reid:

Games: 44(21)
Goals: 5
Assists: 14

Steed does a lot of good work but Reid has a more positive effect on goals for SAFC.

Again, in 2008/2009 Steed has 8 assists and Reid 5. In 2009/2010 they had 6 assists each. This is the period when they played together.

Let's not forget that Reid takes all the corners and free kicks when he's on the pitch and most of his assists come from situations like that. Steed's assists come only from open play.

Reid has only played half the games that is the difference.

Quality player should be given a chance.

I would be very surprised if that was true, we don't really score many from corners and how can you use scoring a free kick like the beauty against west ham last year as a negative?

We can't forget that steed can't hit a barn door from 10 yards so far this season!

Steed never plays full games either, only really manages 60 so hes missing 30mins every game. My main problem with reid is he thinks he can beat everyone, loses the ball and doesnt track back. he also launches crosses in from the halfway line. If you hit enough balls into the box, your bound to get assists, so our midfielders should be able to manage that this year id hope

I like Reidy deffo would have him back, can produce that one maic moment that can win you a game.

- Corner vs Hull City. Reid takes a corner and the ball is handled by a Hull defender. Penalty and an assist for Reid;
- Corner vs Hull City. Reid takes a corner and Turner scores. Another assist;
- Corner vs Wolves. Reid takes the corner and a defender scores an OG. Assist for Reid.

That's all I can remember right now...

The source I'm using doesn't quite correspond with your figures. Additionally you are only using league stats, discounting any weighting for appearances and making wild conjecture about the quality and type of assists that the two provide with little or no evidence to back it up. Whichever way you cut it, Reid has created and scored more goals for SAFC than Steed Malbranque. That he has done it in 25% less appearances (discounting also the fact that he has made far less starts) only serves to emphasise the difference.

Reid undoubtedly has his faults and Steed undoubtedly has his uses. However, Reid should not be discounted just because he is not flavour of the month. I'd have him back around the team in a heartbeat - particularly if Zenden is unavailable for the weekend.
