Andre Marriner

I really do find it amazing that people honestly think any other player would have got away with it, not one person has provided one logical reason why Marriner would just pick on Cattermole.

I mean what has he got to gain for picking on one player and why would he do it?

Because it means that Cattermole can't go around tearing into tackles. Not only would this cause friction between both teams and managers (which would mean the ref has a more difficult game to control) it means that he'd have big decisions to make later on in the game. He might get it wrong and there'd be controversy and his name would be in the news.

So first opportunity, book someone like Catts, knowing he won't be as combative and chances are he'll have an easier game to referee.

Maybe from the one angle and one look he had he thought it was a booking, a few posters earlier on in this thread thought the same.

It does not always have to be complicated or anything else.

He could have just thought it deserved a booking

Just must disagree then that he wants to be the centre of attention which has been suggested by other posters

Or the excellent decision he gave us awarding a penalty for us away against Norwich last season in a 6 pointer relegation game about 5 games left in the season, that nobody else spotted till replay which was massive in the context of the game.

Got no idea why he did that seen as he hates us maybe catts was not playing that game

Funny how good decisions are forgotten and bad or possibly bad decisions are brought up years later.
Even a blind squirrel gets a few decisions right Marriner no exception. Having said that Marriner has missed many decisions against us over the years I for one think he is pathetic and a very poor referee!!!

I don;t think refs want to be the centre of attention, agreed. In fact the opposite. They want as easy a game to referee as possible.

That's why he picked on Cattermole - easy target. However on other occasions I thought there were lots of fouls and niggly little incidents that Marriner should have clamped down on and he didn't.

Exactly you spot on why would a ref want to be centre of attention

However it's entirely possible he simply thought it was a booking

Exactly a year ago today we played Norwich who were fourth of bottom we were third of bottom 4 points behind in a must win game with Marriner has ref.

He made a very good spot to give us a pen to open the scoring and turned down 3 pen shouts for them.

If he hates us as sone people posters suggest it would have been the perfect opporunity to put a nail in our coffin.

However he just give the decisions he thought right on the day and we won 3 0 in a massive game for us.

Shows how 2 fans see a totally different game. One he lets it flow too much and the other he's too stop start. You can't please everyone

The fact @doodlebugs has liked both your posts shows the fact he knows f all about f all though, just another miserable bastard who likes it when people have a whinge about something on here
wow, fame at last, just because my opinion does not toe your line, doesn't mean you or i am right,i think you need to grow up a wee bit afore you start calling folk basstards like

And they made a sub in the last min. Nowt added on for that. Obviously pays to use a sub near the end to run the clock down and get away with it

Rugby (both league and union) has independent timekeepers. It's time to do this in football; clock stops when a goal is scored, a pen is awarded, an injury is treated or a sub is made. Ref can also signal time off if he has to break up the odd handbags at dawn situation. Clock for the half hits 45 minutes - half time or full time. Mind you, we may well find that the 3pm kick offs finish at about 5 past 5 :)
