I don't doubt that Bruce has passion, this thing about him being a mag as a kid is beyond daft and he's made some decent signings. But he is tactially clueless.

There's barely a plan A, let alone a plan B, the fact he spends the whole game on the touchline screaming at players shows that cattermole is not a captain and the team doesnt have a leader in it's ranks.

At times we look completely toothless going forward and the sunderland pinball panic defense is becoming a trademark, despite the fact we have champions league/premier league winning defenders among our ranks.

I like Bruce as a footballing man and I was happy with the end position both the last two seasons, but we've spunked points away so far this year in games that we need and should be getting points from this season.

Is it your surge night? replying to every comment. ????? Anyhow what do you mean by competent staff,
Ones that know what they're doing. Not like Steve Bruce. You were saying all we have to do to accomplish anything is get behind the team. Well it won't just work like that.

Sorry about replying to this post.

This is an appeal to those forum users who are so full of venom towards our manager .

Please take a little time to step back and count your blessings . Think where the club was , or perhaps you have not been around long enough to remember ? Begin to focus your attention on supporting Sunderland AFC not attacking an individual . You will feel better , you will enjoy your football more and be more willing and able to give vocal support to the players in red and white stripes .

The attack on Steve Bruce is making us the laughing stock of the football world . My contacts throughout England ( and in Newcastle ) cant believe the ignorance ( that sums it up ) , short sightedness , fickleness and hatred demonstrated by a minority of so called Sunderland supporters .

Steve Bruce is a good bloke , passionate for success at Sunderland and I believe will prove to be the best manager we have had . Steve Bruce is held in high esteem by football managers . I firmly believe that at the end of the next eight game period we will be in the top eight .If this is the case then I will be a very happy man . I look forward to getting behind the club at the next game as I have done for the last 50 years .

Should Steve Bruce go then I would imagine that the same ill feeling will go towards the next manager after a couple of years . A new manager does not guarantee success or better football .

I would suggest that the majority of the anti Steve Bruce brigade are of relatively young years and have been fed on a diet of sky highlights and the wonder of the Premeiership .

I would also suggest that many of the anti brigade take a crash course in English language . You will find that the English dictionary is full of some wonderful , thoughtful words which help you to explain your thoughts clearly and constructively . I am also amazed to at the number of experts we have out there obviouslly highly qualified in both coaching and finacial management . I wonder where I gain gain these qualifications within a couple of months ?

If Niall Quinn and Ellis Short back the manager, then I will back the manager. I support Sunderland, and I would like to think we stick together in hard times, and enjoy the good times together. I trust the people upstairs to take us forward long-term, to manage the club's budgets accordingly, and to translate success on the pitch. If we have to stabilise the club now to avoid debt then I am behind that. I am frustrated about many things Sunderland, but I am aware there are many things that we don't see - particularly the financial side. Like, I am sure CNZ would have been a great addition, and keeping Bent with a pay rise would've been fantastic, but apparently we couldn't afford to do both/either so I trust the guys upstairs to say "no" to the difficult decisions.
Forever Sunderland.

I'm not moaning, I'm trying to post in the same style as the Bruce lovers.

Everything is the fault of the fans. Everything. Except finishing 10th, that was down the tactical genius in charge of the team. That was nothing to do with the fans

You're doing exactly the opposite. The "Bruce lovers" (who aren't) point to the overall record. You cherry pick parts of it, down to individual, standalone games.

Forever Sunderland.

This. Praise the Lord, this.

You really are a complete f***ing idiot aren't you. Or pissed. You still haven't explained why you think our away form is improving. You can't so you resort to some cheap personal abuse. f***ing prat.

Now fuck off.

Intellectually, and in terms of experience, Nemo would eat you for breakfast and still have room for another dozen of you.

My contacts across the country think you're a berk

Win ratio under 30%, 4 wins since February, our managers constant refusal to make tactical changes, a lack of replacements for our two main strikers and continual naivety in the transfer market by thinking square pegs in round holes will work at left back and left wing.

Continue to accept mediocrity though

You've just made this up to suit your argument haven't you? I know people and post on other forums and most fans of other clubs are amazed he's still in a job after the run we've been on.

I don't doubt that he's a good bloke but he's taken us as far as he can and I don't see him turning around our quite frankly woeful form any time soon. How people can still have so much faith in him after 4 wins from 21 (including defeats to lower league opposition) is bewildering.

Bruce was never a good manager before we got him, i can only think the board were attracted to the possibility of making good money on transfers, there was nothing to suggest he would do well here where it matters.

Bruce said to judge him after 3 seasons, going into the 3rd i would have expected a competent premiership manager to have the core of his team and be looking to add one or two quality players, not go and buy virtually a whole team, the ` time to gel` line is something that should be ran off after two transfer windows max, maybe get away with it in the early part of the second season, certainly not the third.

He seems a decent enough bloke, id love him to have got it right, but he hasnt, i havent seen anything this season to suggest we can go on this great 8 match run people are talking of, as things stand id be very surprised if we finish 10th or above.
We are not going anywhere under Bruce imo.

How is looking at a 9 month period cherry picking individual games? How is pointing out a win percentage of around 30% cherry picking individual matches?

26 points from a possible 75 in 2011. That is not cherry picking individual games. That is pointing out that we havnt been good enough in the whole of 2011
