Americans see Jozy a lot differently than we do, don't they.

How come you're on a Sunderland message board? Just asking like as you've been a poster for a while and not one who signed up because of Altidore.
Before NBC started showing all the games this season, it was hard to get info on the club....no better way to get it than the fans! As for being a Sunderland fan......jsut lucky I guess...always have been! ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1387913601][/DOUBLEPOST]
aye the squad is shit but its our football club,we support the club no matter what, the club has had its fair share relegations so if we do go down we will carry on supporting the lads.
I started following Sunderland when Keane walked out, I thought it was harsh and pulled for Sunderland to stay up....now look at me!! Bastards sucked me in and I can't get out!

theres more ups and downs than a roll coaster following sunderland,be boring following one of the big clubs like man utd, least supporting sunderland you never know whats going to happen lol

i was over in the USA at easter, think the games were live on fox sports then, was brilliant watching footie from 7am up until lunch time,if your going to pick an english team you might as well support sunderland as you have seen every game this season,no point in switching teams now lol

do you follow an MLS team,i support toronto fc,was over for a game a few years ago as my canadian mates are season book holders, loved it,the game wasnt very good but the atmosphere was class, and you can drink in the stands lol

anyways happy christmas mate

I plan on sticking with Sunderland but if they go down I don't know how it will work because the Championship isn't on TV as much. I live in California so the early game starts at 430am. Luckily SAFC hasn't had many of those games. It's kinda good to be a footy fan over here because if you want you can watch some league all day long.

I follow the Galaxy. Toronto is making some good moves with Defoe and Gilberto, but they some help in the midfield. They have some of the best fans around. It is a shame they have never made the playoffs. That city needs a winner even more than Sunderland. 4th most biggest market in North America and all their teams are horrible.

The games are getting better. The passing is still too loose, but the game is very fast-paced and physical. I think you can drink in all the US stadiums. I didn't realize you couldn't drink in the stands in UK. I figured half the reason everyone slags all the players is because they got pissed at the game.

aye your right,TFC,the leafs, the raptors and the blue jays.for a city the size of toronto the teams are really poor

if we do go down you might get some links on here for sunderland games next season[DOUBLEPOST=1387914126][/DOUBLEPOST]
Was almost an Everton fan....it seemed like Fox had them on every week. And then they had a Sunderland game on....
when i was over they showed the chelsea v sunderland game but it was delayed coverage,i was over there when MON got the sack so it was handy having sky sports news on fox[DOUBLEPOST=1387914247][/DOUBLEPOST]

I absolutely loved Fox Soccer Channel about ten years ago when I first started watching football. They had this call in show called Fox Football Fone-in which was great and they had replays of the matches with fans of each team as the commentators. Loved it. I wish NBC would bring some of that back.[DOUBLEPOST=1387914561][/DOUBLEPOST]

Normally in the US there is a time limit where they stop serving beer at a certain point in the game, but you can drink wherever.

aye we had the same thing on sky sports over here,it was called the fanzone were they picked a fan from each side for every live game.

when i was over there i seen more live games then i did over here, was well impressed with fox sports.whats NBC like for the coverage

Agreed. What I am saying is if he was in Spain and he was the only Englishmen in the league, you guys would defend him.

Not anywhere near the same degree. When Keegan went to Hamburg back in the 70s then some Liverpool supporters obviously took an interest (many others felt betrayed). But the huge majority of english football fans didn't take much of an interst in how he was doing other for his club..only whent he played for England,

The coverage is good. The commentators are mostly all British except for one ex-MLS player(I'm forgetting his name.) Every once in a while they have Tim Howard on which is kinda cool. The biggest difference is the access. You can see every game live which is a big difference for me. Fox used to have a lot of games, but it has grown alot with NBC starting to show games. Next year it should get even bigger because Fox bought the US Bundesliga rights.

i am over in dallas at easter next year so its good to hear they show every game, wont miss any sunderland games

I don't consider holland a horrible league even though that's the perception of most of the people on this board. Holland has created more high quality players than the Premier league in last 20 years. And by that I mean players that go on to play for the biggest clubs in the world and have success. (I expect uproar from this statement) lol
I am not expecting Sunderland to build around him. And I wasn't insinuating that they need to. But he will succeed if he's in the right team. Because he's not a world class player, but he can be a great piece on a quality side.

Just look at the Dutch leagues recent record in European competition = horrid.

The Dutch have ALWAYS been a super power in European football though, they have the best youth academies in the world along with Germany's and Spain's at the moment, the Dutch league was pretty strong when Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord had money to compete in Europe, sadly right now they do not.

The strength of the Dutch league is gone very poor.

Different times mate. Most US fans had no clue Reyna played for Sunderland because the games weren't televised. Now, every Sunderland game is on live so American have a more active interest in supporting the player and talking about the club on the SMB.[DOUBLEPOST=1387916375][/DOUBLEPOST]

Make sure to bring a laptop because not all the games are available through the TV. Some are only available through internet on NBC live extra.

Fair enough but people should try and grasp the intense emotion that exists on this board - the up and down history of the club over the last 60 years has spurred us all to be slightly unhinged - swinging from ecstacy to despair in the space of 90 minutes or less. Most of the time it isn't personal, just venting.

According to the man himself, one of the reasons he signed for us was because we took the trouble to watch him play 8 times !
Hard to believe that.

The players get off bloody lightly due to the lack of drinking.

I have mixed feelings on it. I think his movement in the box is shitty but part of it is the whole team is very static. I think he would be better if we counterattacked more. Take the non-goal against Arsenal. It happens because he is one-on-one with the defender. His physicality will let him beat one defender but his lack of tactical awareness will not let him beat 4 defenders.

Ki and Catts need to drive the ball forward when they recover the ball instead of passing it back and forth and letting the defense settle. Altidore needs more space. He won't get it if the defense is able to put 10 behind the ball.

You have hit the nail on the head. Jozy would have been great in MONs team. Irony is that Graham would be much more effective in Poyets team.

Seems a particularly American thing, this support the player attitude. These boards arent full of Italians supporting Borini for example..
It's not an American thing in general. You don't see it in other sports, for instance.

You have to understand: there is no quality professional football in America. What are we going to follow, the MLS? It's garbage.

So if you're a footy fan in the U.S., you have to look elsewhere. There's international football, but CONCACAF leaves something to be desired (that's an understatement), and anyway how often does the national team play an actual meaningful game? Not often.

Some U.S. footy fans pick one of the financial big names and just watch them. My mate follows Arsenal, for no reason other than he picked them out when he was a lad. But many of us don't want to do that, just be a bandwagon fan for the "good" teams.

In the meantime, the only footballers we "know" are the ones we've watched on the national team. So we watch them, and hope they come good in the "real" professional ranks.

Is Jozy our super-duper-favorite footballer, EVER, and all that? Nah, not really. Not for most. He just happens to be the only decent American in the prem at the moment.

And by the way: UncleSam aside, what most Americans actually think of Jozy is that he MIGHT be DECENT. Not that he IS GREAT, mind, just that he MIGHT be OK. And we're hoping he is OK. We are well-aware that the window on our "might" is closing quickly, and that it's starting to look like he just doesn't have it.

And another "by the way": I started following Sunderland in August because of Jozy. Again, not that I'm some kind of huge Alt-adorer, just curious how he'd do. I've gradually become hooked. When Ki scored against Chelsea I was streaming the game on a computer, and I jumped out of my seat and shouted, pumping my fist. (Nearly broke the damn computer.)

I want Catts to find some discipline...he's got some ability, if he can just keep the ugly tackles out of his game. I want Colback to come good--I like the lad. I want Fletcher to shake off whatever's ailing him and find some form. I want Ki to be signed permanently. I want Giach to turn out to look like an Italian international mainstay. I want Wes to stay fit and young for 4 more years.

And, yes, I want Jozy to gain some confidence and look like a prem-level striker that one wouldn't be ashamed of.

We all want jozt to come good. If however he doesn't we (the Sunderland supporters) won't be shy in saying he's played shit. The Americans might this distasteful but you have remember this area of england is extremely passionate and honest. We dont suffer fools. Perhaps its our heritage (shipbuilding/mining), its definitely in our dna and if a player plays well he will receive an almost unique level of adultation. Most Americans will be totally oblivious to our (or any othrr English clubs history).

But we are desperate for jozy to do well. Absolutely desperate.
