Had a few decent games.I fail to see how he could have been any worse![]()
The Americans like him because he plays in a side that create chances for him and he scores goals. Funny that.
It's not something most football supporters can understand, this support of a player whereever he plays because he is of the same nationality.
Owen Hargreaves, for example, is from my home town, Calgary here in Canada, but i didn;t feel any desire to have supported him..thought he was over hyped and a bit of a tit actually. But then I grew up supporting sunderland and not individual players. Of course there are a few who have played their way into our hearts, but that is because of what they hve done for us during their careers…players like Hurley, Monty, Kerr, Halom, Rowell, Marco, Phillips
Seems a particularly American thing, this support the player attitude. These boards arent full of Italians supporting Borini for example..
Why would anyone expect an American to see Altidore the same way as the English do? If one of your hometown players (e.g. Henderson) went abroad to Germany, Italy, or Spain and struggled would you slag the player or the club. Generally speaking people protect their own and blame the "outsiders."
Agreed. What I am saying is if he was in Spain and he was the only Englishmen in the league, you guys would defend him.Henderson got dogs abuse whilst he was here.
I don't consider holland a horrible league even though that's the perception of most of the people on this board. Holland has created more high quality players than the Premier league in last 20 years. And by that I mean players that go on to play for the biggest clubs in the world and have success. (I expect uproar from this statement) lolThat's being generous.
If there is no defender around you and you're through on goal in Holland what is the difference between being able to score there and not in England?
He isn't of the required standard to build a team around in a top league, the only places he's has "success" were in the MLS and in Holland.
It most certainly won't be in a top league anyway.

I certainly wouldn't sign up to an online fan site - mainly as I don't speak Spanish.Agreed. What I am saying is if he was in Spain and he was the only Englishmen in the league, you guys would defend him.
Why do you think all the Americans flock here? We don't speak German, Italian, and French.I certainly wouldn't sign up to an online fan site - mainly as I don't speak Spanish.
whos your team mateWhy do you think all the Americans flock here? We don't speak German, Italian, and French.
whos your team mate
i was over in the USA at easter, think the games were live on fox sports then, was brilliant watching footie from 7am up until lunch time,if your going to pick an english team you might as well support sunderland as you have seen every game this season,no point in switching teams now lolMy favorite team is always going to be the US National Team. I am still figuring out who my Premiereship team is. I used to watch Fulham a lot when Dempsey and MCBride were there.
This is the first year all the games have been broadcasted in the US so this is the first time I could really follow a club. I have watched all the Sunderland games this year, which has been fun because it is the most emotionally invested I have been with one English clubs. I like the club, but it is incredibly frustrating at times. I don't know how you guys have done this for 40+ years.
Outside of Sunderland, I have really enjoyed Everton. Martinez has them playing great and I think it would be awesome if they could nick a Champions League spot. I don't think I could really ever support the big clubs. I have always loved the underdogs and longshots.
I'm a yank and would like to see Jozy do well but he has been frustrating the last few games.....that being said, the whole squad is shit...you know what the white stuff is in bird shit? More bird shit!i cant understand this supporting a player just because hes from a certian country,i support the team and wouldnt even think about joining a forum because of 1 player, each to there own though i suppose
How come you're on a Sunderland message board? Just asking like as you've been a poster for a while and not one who signed up because of Altidore.I'm a yank and would like to see Jozy do well but he has been frustrating the last few games.....that being said, the whole squad is shit...you know what the white stuff is in bird shit? More bird shit!
aye the squad is shit but its our football club,we support the club no matter what, the club has had its fair share relegations so if we do go down we will carry on supporting the lads.I'm a yank and would like to see Jozy do well but he has been frustrating the last few games.....that being said, the whole squad is shit...you know what the white stuff is in bird shit?
