If someone teaches him off the ball movement, even the most basic, he'd be a beast.
How about scoring too?

He doesn't need to score, he can create threat just by being in threatening positions, threatening to do something threatening.
And? He does the job. I didn't say anything in regards to Sunderland. He also gets to play with proper footballers with the USA. Klinsmann actually has a style that isn't kicking the ball around the box and hoping something magically happens. Sergio f***ing Aguero wouldn't score in this setup. He also went nearly 2 years without an international goal.
Granted he scored a hattrick against Bosnia and scored once against Germany, but they were friendlies, it just isn't the same as a proper competitive game.
You also get to see the USA, playing such mighty teams like Panama, Belize, Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica etc
How about switching him and Bardo!

Aguero would have buried Altidore's chance on Saturday. As would Daryl Murphy. And Jon Stead. Probably Rada Prica too. And? He does the job. I didn't say anything in regards to Sunderland. You should've put home boys or homies not home townWhy would anyone expect an American to see Altidore the same way as the English do? If one of your hometown players (e.g. Henderson) went abroad to Germany, Italy, or Spain and struggled would you slag the player or the club. Generally speaking people protect their own and blame the "outsiders."

All the yanks be in uproar on here now marra
Not in England mate, we f***ing relish the chance to slag off our own. Henderson is a perfect example of that.
Having said that, it's been clear to me from very early in the season that Altidore will not score goals in this league. He has some qualities but he simply lacks the intelligence, movement, clinical finishing and overall quality to be a regular goalscorer in this league, no matter what the service from midfield is like. We cannot afford to carry a non-scoring striker, if we stick with Altidore up-front we will 100% be relegated.
It's not something most football supporters can understand, this support of a player whereever he plays because he is of the same nationality.
Owen Hargreaves, for example, is from my home town, Calgary here in Canada, but i didn;t feel any desire to have supported him..thought he was over hyped and a bit of a tit actually. But then I grew up supporting sunderland and not individual players. Of course there are a few who have played their way into our hearts, but that is because of what they hve done for us during their careers…players like Hurley, Monty, Kerr, Halom, Rowell, Marco, Phillips
Seems a particularly American thing, this support the player attitude. These boards arent full of Italians supporting Borini for example..
I feel that in a team with a quality midfield he plays very well. He's not Ronaldo or messi yet people on smb want him to create and score regularly with scraps. Yes he's missed a couple chances and he's still raw, but the bashing he takes is shameful.
I talked to a friend of mine who is a former coach at Fulham/Tottenham and he told me prior to the season that Sunderland was not a good fit because the team was not built to his style of play. He stated that Jozy needs creativity/vision in the midfield in order to excel. Everywhere he has had success is hinged upon the strength of the midfield in the final third.
It's really sad that he has been called plank, amongst other things. It's very unfortunate. I hope that he can have a great 2014 for Sunderland and if not move on to a team that has the qualities he needs to succeed...
