Americans see Jozy a lot differently than we do, don't they.

I personally still struggle to work out how people can criticise our strikers for being poor this season when they are averaging around 2 shots/chances per game, often in shit positions to boot! Jozy Altidore is a very good striker when happy and confident as all strikers can be, however this season we are so mind numbingly poor on the ball in midfield he must be crying every time he sees Larsson get the ball and attempt to pass it to him.

In Jozy and Fletches position of being the lone man up top with no midfield runners getting in behind me I'd be going mental at them in training! It'd do my head in!

This whole season is a write off. Forget the Jozy we see this year, forget the Giacc we've seen, hopefully next season no matter where we are, we will see a VERY different team than this one! The one player we can't forget is Adam Johnson cause he's shite!
You almost made a really good post until you went against everything you'd been saying.

would love the lad to do well but just cant see it happening,i would play fletcher and boroni and have altidore coming off the bench,he seems to play better when coming on as sub

The lad makes Brett Angell look prolific. He will never be a regular goalscorer in this league, he just doesn't possess the natural instincts that any half decent striker requires for this division. The chance on Saturday when he had opportunity to hit it first time and instead fucked about trying to take another touch summed him up, this league is too big for him.

That article is mental.
The article said:
"In the twisting streets of Bosnia, there is a whispered tale about Jozy Altidore. If you find yourself near the third-closest pub to Sarajevo’s aging stadium, go inside and introduce yourself as an American. They will greet you warmly and serve you two-percent milk. If you stay awhile, they will ask you some questions.

Who is this man? Where has he gone? Please ask that he never return. It’s hard to know how to answer just yet."

Great stuff.

Honestly i think Jozy will benefit from a rest after Cardiff, then a long run in the first team, hes excellent at hold up play but he must be f***ing dying inside seeing no help whatsoever from any other players, im screaming because i can see what the lad is doing (and hes f***ing good at it) but there is no f***ing support

Jozy is just not talented enough.. doesn't possess technique and despite being built as a tank isn't even that physical on the pitch. He is barely premier league material.. maybe as a bench player.. but he was paid to be something more.

He's useless. He's probably as intelligent as Gardner on the pitch. You can actually see his mind working but it's just too slow.

His runs are shit, always tries to run behind. He fools himself and his team mates with them but not the defender.

Committs stupid fouls when there's absolutely no reason to foul the opposition.

He's useless at getting in the box I don't think he's gotten on the end of a cross all season. Dutch league is miles behind ours and you can tell unfortunately for Jozy.

Poor business.

Look at this through Yank eyes - the guy has had a great year for the national team, scored a load of goals, set up a few more. Against Bosnia, which has a pretty solid group of players, he scores three, sets up a fourth. He was an absolute beast that day, he even scored on a free kick on the edge of the area (first and only time I've seen him take one, although some on Big Soccer say he took them regularly in Holland. He still tries to get involved every time there's a free kick from a similar position, Larsson and the like blow him off every time.

Now he comes to Sunderland, the team is struggling, he's struggling. It's really easy, even if not necessarily correct, for we Yanks to pass it off as he isn't getting sufficient help.

I can understand the disconnect. If all I knew of the guy was what he's done here, and to some extent Hull when he was a kid, I'd probably be pretty negative on him, too. But having seen more than that, I can't write him off, I see the flashes and keep thinking he'll turn a corner.

Fletcher hasn't set the world on fire, either. It doesn't appear Poyet will go two up front often (and I don't question that), so to me, I keep rotating them, giving each starts and hoping beyond hope that one of them catches a run of form we can ride for a few weeks. And no, I don't put that past Altidore. Even the likes of Jon Stead and Michael Rickettts have had brief runs of form in the Prem, and Altidore is still a notch above them.

I posted similar a few weeks back:

Home 4231
Mannone
Bardsley Brown Oshea Dossenna
Cattermole Ki
Johnson Giaacarini Borini
Altidore/Fletcher

Away 4231
Mannone
Celustka Oshea Brown Bardsley
Cattermole Colback
Johnson Ki Borini
Altidore/Fletcher

We need different starting 11s for both H&A and playing good teams/bad teams. Start Altidore or Fletcher and bring the other on after 60 mins or so. Eventually one of em should get lucky. If we're not recalling Alf or CW or DG then weve a very limited squad to choose from.

He looks much better running at goal with the ball than waiting for it with back to goal, he does need to use his strength better as he just seems to feel contact and go down too easily, but playing in our team is hardly gonna make him look great (Fletcher has loads of experience and he looks even worse atm) I think Borini playing closer to him would be the answer but we haven't the midfield quality to allow it unfortunately.

Reid made the same mistake in buying Flo to replace Quinn.
Altidore needs the ball to his feet, his 'goal' against Arsenal shows where his strengths are.

People look at him and expect him to be a big strong ox type player, when in actual fact his strength is his pace and a powerful shot.
There are very few defenders in this league that will keep up with him in a straight heads up race.
But our midfield are too pre-occupied with picking out pinpoint passes to O'Shea to give Jozy a ball to run onto.

Whether he can improve the rest of his game remains to be seen.
But I'm 6'2" and always became 5'2" when jumping for the ball.

He has scored one more goal for Sunderland than Angell did.

He's our nation's best striker and scores for our national team on a regular basis. Of course we see him differently.

So they've watched him score a few against clowntown defences in CONCACAF and Holland. Means nothing in terms of doing it in a top league

He also went nearly 2 years without an international goal.

Granted he scored a hattrick against Bosnia and scored once against Germany, but they were friendlies, it just isn't the same as a proper competitive game.

You also get to see the USA, playing such mighty teams like Panama, Belize, Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica etc
