Am I a Dinasour - Office Environments?

I highly doubt people can maintain a consistent level of attention on one thing for that long.
I look to block out four hour chunks of time for a single task that requires a lot of thought (like writing a paper). If possible, I'll leave my phone in another room, turn off emails etc. It's difficult, but I've found that with practice it's about the right amount of time. I'm always knackered by the end of it though

I just started a new contract this week at a place where the IT department use 'Agile'. Everyone is part of a 'Scrum' and each one has its own team name. When you find out that the team names are things like 'The Beserkers', 'The Night Watch' and 'Red Squadron', it doesn't take a genius to work out that the programmers have been given a say. It's not doing much for the image of It staff when team names like this just screams nerdy-virgins.

Oh aye and apparently at 'scrum stand-ups' you have to be holding the Yoda cuddly toy to be allowed to speak.

F'kin awesome
We're starting Agile Scrum next month, not looking forward to it.

Went to have a chat with a director of a company earlier on in the week about possible opportunities at the company, a big thing he mentioned was that I would need to fit into the culture of the company.

The dress code on that day seemed to be shorts and zany comedy T-shirts or shit with Atari symbols etc on. Staff seemed to be just f***ing about chatting shit or playing ping pong, hangng about in 'break out' areas or on their laptops in the cafe, they seem to have loads of 'fun' days etc......I sort of decided I couldn't work there by this. Turns out they're not hiring anyways.

But Ive come away thinking, is this what modern office environments are like? I'm more of a tradional suit or at least a pair of slacks and buttoned shirt type of man, I like to keep work away from socialising, get to work, do a full days graft before leaving and getting home and taking the work clothes of is a demarkation point to try and switch off from work. To me if your staff have time to piss about, you hav etoo many staff.

Do i need to maybes broaden my thoughts on this to fit into new companies? This is my first real exposure of looking for employment outside of my company that Ive had.

Where do I even buy a funny Bart Simpson t-shirt???
Why do you want to wear a shirt and trousers to sit at a desk all day? Just wear something comfortable.

I’m sure they believe that their corporate culture enables people to be themselves and exprezs their individuality. It’s probsbly meant to be inclusive. But it’s not truly inclusive

It would bug the fuck out of me

My advice: be yourself, express your individuality don’t work for companies that don’t allow you to.

My experience: I do whatever I need to, to pay the mortgage and then move on at the earliest opportunity.

Most people wear suits to try to disguise the fact they're not up to it. Usually use buzzwords and say lots without actually saying anything anarl.

And the bastards are always stereotyping people.

We started that last month...originally a stand up that was supposed to last for no more than 5 minutes. After 3 days it was a one hour sit down in a meeting room bitch fest :lol:
We don't do them anymore.

For fuck sake, that would finish me off! A f***ing petting zoo, for adults!
Brilliant...:lol::lol::lol:

I've told my manager I'm walking out of the daily stand ups bang on 15 minutes even if it's not finished. Have a right couple of moaners on the team so I'm not going to sit and listen to them fuckers all morning.

Where I'm working is bloody awful really. On the Team Valley. I think it depresses me more going out.

My last place I could just wander over to the window and look out over the Sydney or across the harbour, go to the kitchen on my floor and make tea and watch news (or sport if there was something on) for a few minutes. Go down to the cafe in the building for a skinny laah-tay and watch people come and go. Or go for a 'hot lap' around another floor and look at the wimmin. Or even fuck off to the free on site gym if I felt inclined. Or I could go for a run out through the city, through a park and by the harbour. Or failing all of that to the pub.

Ah man what have I done.....

Look at the smoke coming out of de la rue, breathtaking.

The last time I wore a suit, shirt and tie in the office was because I was going to a funeral.

I really depends on your working environment - we also have a factory which can get pretty mucky - there's no point wearing nice clobber and getting it covered in granite dust and sludge - so wear smartish trousers and a shirt that wouldn't to much if they get written off.

That's what happened with ours ...moaning cu nts droning on and on :lol:
I had to walk out of one when they started repeating themselves. We should have had a cuddly Yoda.
