Altidore

The people that stick up for Altidore, spout the same shite as those who stuck up for Heskey

"He works well with other strikers"
"He creates space"
"He's a good team player"

And all this bollocks.

[DOUBLEPOST=1396998446][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, and altidore has been involved in all but one. Its good to see that everyone's selective memory still works though. ;)
They go those points DESPITE Altidore and Larsson being on the pitch if we had a centre forward who could shoot, head, get into goal scoring positions or god forbid score the odd few goals there could have been an extra ten points and we would have been almost safe.

I highly doubt Altidore plays the rest of the season. We will see how many points we earn without him and coincidentally how full of shit you are.

A wise manager trying to avoid relegation would normally not continue to drop a player who has been involved in all the team's points but one, after having dropped him plenty of times giving the team opportunities to pick up points without him. What all the posts from the haters seem to lack is an alternative plan. Until someone of that disposition can say something constructive I don't see why that viewpoint should be taken seriously. Basically we've beat Newcastle twice, Man U twice, Man City, Chelsea (and scored 3 against them in a loss). I'm not convinced that it was right for Poyet to scrap that system and drop so many players involved in those games, including Altidore but not just him. I don't blame him for experimenting, but at some point you have to go back to what has worked for you.

It was actually true about Heskey (and for an example closer to home, Bendtner).

Sunderland total vs. EPL opposition (league & cups) = 3660 minutes = 38 goals

Altidore on the field:
1969 minutes = 27 goals = 1 goal every 72.93 minutes (or 1.23 goals per 90 minutes)

Altidore not on the field:
1691 minutes = 11 goals = 1 goal every 153.72 minutes (or .56 goals per 90 minutes

but lets send him to the u-21s

would be better used if Gus told the rest of the team that Jozy would bum rape whoever didn't put a shift in

If you want your striker just to score goals that's fine. I want mine to be involved in a team picking up points.

Now that's funny. To pick up on the causation v. correlation post, then, I would assume that the team would continue to pick up points (maybe more) WITHOUT Altidore and Larsson (and Colback) on the pitch. How's that working out???

Is there a way to do that for just the matches Poyet has managed? The difference is probably even more drastic if you get rid of the games played under DiCanio.

There is merit in what you say, but he did not just change the personell , he also changed the system. Maybe if he had of stuck with the system and introduced players who could improve on the individuals within that system we would have got more points.

Bit to late now but the net result is that had he binned Altidore a lot earlier and stuck with the system we would have scraped through. Danny Graham would have been an improvement on Altidore in the same system.

Nett result is still Altidore is still a bloody awful footballer

There is such a toxic mentality on this message board and in Poyet's attitude. We have nearly a fifth of the season left! I hate to see so many people giving up when we've beat so many top teams this season.

Revert to the system that worked. Play Altidore, Larsson, and Colback again. Sub in Wickham and see if he's a better fit in that system than Altidore. Maybe we could stay up then. Who would have thought we could beat Man U, Chelsea, and Man City when Poyet started? So it actually is possible.

Look. After the season Altidore is going to leave Sunderland and go on to have a nice, if unspectacular, international career in another league. In a couple of months that cannot pass quickly enough, he's going to play a leading role for the USA in Brazil while the rest of SAFC save Ki will be watching on the telly. And should he score a couple of goals there, the dross from this season will recede with great rapidity.

So let's drop the hyperbole about how bad a player he is. Focus on the now. What team gives the best chance to win and avoid relegation? There's no plausible argument that Altidore should be left off of that team. Because if you want to leave him off the team, then you also ought to leave off players who offer less and/or have been worse than Altidore this year. They inarguably include: O'Shea, Brown, Larsson, Vergini, Dossena, Cuellar, Diakite, Roberge, Ba, Scocco, Mavrias and Gardner. Maybe Bardsley and Cattermole too.

In case you haven't noticed, the Altidore-less Cats could not be less threatening were their players forced to hop on one leg. If Altidore (and Giaccherini for that matter) don't see the pitch regularly the rest of the way, SAFC is all but certain to go down.

Despite all of the players you name having indifferent to bad seasons all of them can actually control a football, which is something Altidore cannot do

Altidore does neither.
We've picked up more points per average when he's played than when he hasn't. He may never make it as a premier league player but it's not even debateable in my opinion he should be in the squad. Same with Larsson, to leave both out is just another baffling selection by Poyet.

So a player that scored 40 goals across all competitions last year can't control the ball. Got it.

Then again, maybe someone should try playing a ball into his feet? For a change, like.

Have you actually watched him, he has the touch of a bull elephant.

Are these stats right? Only 1 shot all season? I can't really remember him having any shots?

Tournament Apps Goals Assists Shots Key Passes Dribbles Fouled Offs Disp Trn Rating
Premier League* 19(8) 1 1 1 0.8 0.4 1.4 0.4 1.4 1.3 6.46

Maybe every other player ups their game because he's that shite it's like playing with 10 men?

what is that one at the end TRN Rating 6.46 is that how many seconds it takes him to turn with the ball.

What is his STEPOVER rating 5.2 ie 5.2 step-overs per minute. He really is a useless kernt.
