It's amazing how hard it is to get people to accept obvious things they don't wish to accept.

The only obvious thing is he cant score goals and he offers sod all in terms of assists to boot.............

But does both for the USA.
Doesn't seem cut out for the premier league, certainly not in our team, but championship defences are nothing like as difficult to penetrate, nor do you need to be half as mobile or as cute. In a new look sunderland team and at a lower level you could quite easily make a case for altidore scoring 25 plus goals

he does get assists though, if you look at the games we won jan/feb altidore was key in quite a lot of those games. at fulham he was involved in the link up play for the 3rd and won the penalty to the 4th, stoke at home he played well against a strong stoke back-line and played very well both games against newcastle linking with borini for the winner at the SOL and at the land-fill linking up excellently with colback for the 2nd goal. In-fact most of the games we've played well in and won Altidore has contributed to the team, problem is he is still a fat, useless lummocks and his ultimate failure is that he is striker who cannot even strike a ball in a team struggling for goals that's always gonna be a problem. But to say he offers sod all is a tad harsh he's just like the rest of the useless tw@ts inconsistent, lazy, ignorant and not really very good.

right. Like the fact that this team is sinking like a cement truck while an international-caliber player sits it out.

Time to try Ustari up front, isn't it?

So..... According to these stats Sunderlands attacking players instantly become twice more likely to score simply due to Jozy Altidore being on the pitch beside them ??
Cant see it personally.

Correlation does not imply causation as any scientist will tell you!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_does_not_imply_causation

No, it doesn't, but we can't be scientifically exact in football. How else do we pick a forward, when none of the forwards are scoring, other than comparing how well the team attacks when each plays?

Sunderland total vs. EPL opposition (league & cups) = 3660 minutes = 38 goals

Altidore on the field:
1969 minutes = 27 goals = 1 goal every 72.93 minutes (or 1.23 goals per 90 minutes)

Altidore not on the field:
1691 minutes = 11 goals = 1 goal every 153.72 minutes (or .56 goals per 90 minutes

but lets send him to the u-21s

Good stat. It's that old argument about occupying defenders and making space for others.
We thought we were bad and did not look like scoring with him playing, we are far worse now... But don't think he would change it.

I'm not the manager so this is irrelevant but given that we have gone poor again since he messed around with the team maybe he should just play the team (minus Dossena) and formation that was doing OK and that includes Altidore up top and Borini on the left again

I am one of those that has come to the conclusion that Jozy simply isn't good enough to be a successful PL striker. I really do believe that. Having said that though, the thing I laugh about is the hate he gets from Sunderland fans when this entire team is not good enough for the PL and is proving that fact with every match.

The OP's stats are compelling. Even though he isn't good enough, Altidore makes this piss-poor squad a bit better. That is telling as hell. When he plays, Sunderland performs better. Full stop. And yet 'true' Sunderland supporters trash him every chance they get. The raw stupidity of it is very amusing.

The lengths Jozy's fans go to try and prove he has been anything but useless this year is what is hilarious.
He's had a couple of decent performances all season, I hoped that the way he played in those two games would be his average performance this season, with a few outstanding games thrown on top, (along with a few stinkers of course). But no, a couple of decent performances full stop which his fans have built up to be Gazzaesque games cos he successfully passed the ball a few times.

If stats are to be believed Adam Johnson is Englands best player and should be the first name on the England team sheet.

We hate all of our players at the moment, they are useless bastards.
The only difference is Altidore is the only player who has a fan club on here causing more debate.
For example is you started a thread called " John O'shea is shit", you would get no argument, mention Jozy is shit and our friends from over the water start basing furiously at their keyboard in defence.

Yes football is a team game, but one of the requirements for a "team" is all ten outfield players are required to control a ball with their first touch and pass it in a straight line. Jozy cannot do either so rightly is not part of the team and it appears he could not do it for the "kids" either.

His one "assist" is when the ball bounced of his foot to Borini vs Mags with his awful first touch.

A truly awful awful footballer in every sense of the word.

I've been saying the same thing. The only thing is I'd swap Wickham in for Altidore. Not because I rate Wickham, but because Jozy is awful. But the problem is: have certain players given up, so any changes that include them be a waste of time? I think we all know who we are talking about here...[DOUBLEPOST=1396992783][/DOUBLEPOST]

I always think we are playing with 10 men when he is on the pitch. 9 if you include Seb.

Could not agree more, we bought relegation specialists in Larsson Gardner and Fletcher, and in life you usually get what what you pay for.

Except we paid good money for Dozy and we got a WWF wrestler with giant clown shoes.

I'm not sure yanks will ever understand football

We understand the shit out of it... about 150 days until the NFL kicks off.

And if we had a relegation system my NY Jets would be playing in League Two by now

Aye cos hes really contributed to the season like " an international-calibre player" hasn't he.......

He jumps and moves like hes shackled to a fleet of "cement trucks".......

Jesus man we spent millions on an American donkey stop keep trying to blame the fact hes f***ing awful cubed on everybody else..............

They'd be involved in a nail-biting relegation battle with the Jags though.[DOUBLEPOST=1396998016][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hasn't Larsson been involved in every point we've picked up this season?

I hope I never understand it as well as the English.[DOUBLEPOST=1396998446][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, and altidore has been involved in all but one. Its good to see that everyone's selective memory still works though. ;)
