Should have kept Sess and played him under Altidore.
I know Sess is a little fair-weather, lazy, shit but I wouldn't wish that on him

We also had more confidence, Johnson scoring and were still in the cupsmbmueller831 said:Ya, you lads choose to see what you want. The squad has scored more goals and played better with Altidore in it. Is he a great player? No, but the squad plays better with him in it. If Gus had a bit of sense he would pair him up top with someone else so he wouldn't be so isolated to see if it could work.

Maybe. I still think system plays a big role in how shitty has has been. The US plays either a 442 or 4231 with Dempsey as the other striker/attacking mid. AZ had a 433 with Maher as a number 10. I just think if you player him with another striker/attacking mid you get a lot more out of him. In limited time with Fletcher or Wickham, he has looked good this year.[DOUBLEPOST=1396974453][/DOUBLEPOST]We also had more confidence, Johnson scoring and were still in the cups
If you're breaking football down in to a set of simpleton statistics which mean the square root of fuck all, then yes. If you assume that football is a little bit more complicated than that and you have to be a complete cretin to put any stall in said statistics, then no.
We are bottom of the table and Jozy has stunk the place out, that's all that matters.
You are kidding right? Half on here say "He didn't score. He's shite." That is a way more simpleton approach than anything I have said.
First thing is to remove the cup games, but I'm sure you could find a similar stat with some other random outfield player.
It may come as a surprise but football is a team game. I don't care who GP puts on the pitch as long as the team is performing and getting results. We have 25 points. Larsson (25), Altidore (24) and Colback (22) helped to win almost all of them. From Boxing Day to Feb 1 the team went 4-2-1 and scored 13 goals in PL games and was 3-1 in Cup games. Altidore and Colback played in all seven PL games and Larsson in six. Altidore played in all four Cup games, Colback and Larsson in three. Since those three players fell out of favour we are 0-1-6 with 4 goals in the PL. That's a stat that has nothing to do with the perceived worth of any individual player. The team has been changed in favour of GP's signings and it isn't working. We have seven games to secure the points necessary to stay up. It makes eminent sense to play the players that got you the points you have whether you or the fans rate them or not.
Sunderland total vs. EPL opposition (league & cups) = 3660 minutes = 38 goals
Altidore on the field:
1969 minutes = 27 goals = 1 goal every 72.93 minutes (or 1.23 goals per 90 minutes)
Altidore not on the field:
1691 minutes = 11 goals = 1 goal every 153.72 minutes (or .56 goals per 90 minutes
but lets send him to the u-21s
Yankee stats syndrome strikes again................
Where I agree with you is what you've said all along: the problem in our team is creating chances. Unfortunately, Altidore just doesnt look like a premier league footballer. It isn't working out for him here and no other PL club is going to take a chance on him after 3 goals in 2 seasons.Maybe. I still think system plays a big role in how shitty has has been. True enough, scoring goals is not the only barometer.
But if you add 'lazy', 'immobile', 'struggles to control a football', 'unable to pass a football' and 'as strong as a syphilitic kitten', then the case starts to build.

You know his potential better than us. I cant blame him for being shiteI have no objection with lazy, immobile, and struggles to control the football, but he is the best passing striker and strongest striker in the squad.[DOUBLEPOST=1396975883][/DOUBLEPOST]
Agree, 100%. He has looked poor and it is doubtful he gets another prem chance. I just think the situation hasn't all been his fault. Poyet has made him look worse than he really is.
Seems to me like everyone else is doing his job of scoring goals to me.Altidore on the field:

How's this one.
LMFAO. What finisher would succeed on this squad mate. Not messi or Ronaldo would have success on this shit team. He's an embarrassment
It's weird cos wasn't he reported as being a pure finisher type goal scorer? I know the Eredivisie is poor but we haven't seen any of those fundamentals whatsoever
It's amazing how hard it is to get people to accept obvious things they don't wish to accept. It's brilliant the lengths people go to to criticise him are impressive, no one is saying Altidore is a good player we simply play better with him in the team whether coincidence or not.
