Altidore watch

Seven pages of miserable projection away from the true culprits today. There was no saving SAFC after Brown's Bardsley-aided disaster. Poyet then made the rare terrible move and magnified it.

Scocco should be straight into the team for the next home game. Altidore can be very good with his back to goal in the right sort of game, but at home especially against the teams around us in the league, we very badly need a striker who can cause problems facing goal. That's why Poyet has spunked £4m on the lad, to go straight in the team. Hopefully.

Jozy was far from being the problem today and having a men sent off today made it much harder for a lone striker to make an impact.

I would like to think people who are criticizing at the moment aren't really doing so based on today's match. The fact that he only has 1 PL goal is probably more of the reason why the anti-altidore crowd are out the cage in full force. Every time the team loses and Jozy doesn't score, he will be blamed which is fine, I guess.

But today, looking at his statistics, he did okay giving the circumstances.
Completed 82% of his passes.
Won 4 aerial duels. But he also lost quit a few. But still, not many strikers wins 4. Jelavic and Long won less today.
0 dispossession
1 turnovers.

Today wasn't the problem, but his 1 goal is creating issue. If Jozy was terrible at everything else but kept scoring garbage goals when the game was already decided, I think people would get off his back. Sad but this is in the situation he's in.

Jozy wasnt a problem yesterday but only because of mitigating circumstances. He's been a problem all season and as we are now drawing towards the end of the season most Sunderland fans i know and a lot on here are just sick of him. Its one step forward and two steps back with him. The constant excuses for has lackluster performances are getting very tiring now as well.

i thought his hold up play was pretty good yesterday but hes just not a threat in front of goal and the longer he goes without scoring the more ppl will pile on(rightfully so in a lot of ways). his body language tells me he doesn't even want the ball in and around the box. i can't remember the last time he settled it outside the box and turned with it towards goal. he just seems to park himself in the middle of the box and never really shows himself for the ball all that much. forget about goals at this point, he barely even gets shots off.

Some very fair points there. Altidore's performance wasn't bad at all yesterday IMO. However, the bolded point, is applicable to all strikers not just Altidore

Altidore's so called good / not-bad performances are pretty much just matches where he is not a detriment to the team (where it is akin to playing with 10 men as he contributes/creates nothing and when he does get a touch most the time wastes it). A forward providing no goal threat is one of the main reasons we are in the mess that we are currently in. Hopefully Scocco is the answer and is fit soon.
