"Whilst it looks bollocks"

Haway man for once take it on the chin and admit its a bloody good bump and you just happen to be the gold medallist because of it...

I have took it on the chin, I even said I'm happy to have egg on my chin if Wickham's form continues to dig us out of the shite, why ignore that?

It doesn't alter the fact Wickham hadn't played as well for Sunderland as Altidore had that day at that time, hence me and others saying so at the time. Since then different story, but then since the second half of the Southampton game I've been wanting Wickham (or almost anybody) in the side instead of Altidore, whilst up until a week ago you still had people making excuses for Altidore.

When he signed last summer I thought Jozy was too good for Sunderland. I was wrong. Bamboozled by a YouTube AZ highlight reel. Never again internet. Never again.

He'll be ok, the standard of opposition will be lower next year.

Easy to get to away games next season....

Touche

It's not like. People sticking up for a new player in September when some twisty little fucker wants to criticise at the earliest oppo. To be fair, I probably try too hard to see the best in players and don't appear on this thread. To give up on a new signing in September makes the OP an idiot. To try and play the big man because others didn't makes him a bit of a cunny.

I'm an idiot because I was right?

Aye of course you have and then you go trying to defend it and go setting the search function on fire trying to deflect the flack.........( and the only folk defending the donkey in the last few weeks are his blinded countrymen so that's not relevant to your wriggling at all)

Just take it instead of the yes I have but but but but..............

"Not true. Altidore is stronger, holds the ball better, links better, uses his body miles better and is 100 percent better in the air. Apart from that, yeah you're right.... "

I'll defend Altidore, I think he'll come good(probably not with us), his confidence is shot to pieces and we have never played to his strengths(judging from the International goals he's scored)

Mate your defence is admirable but hes total utter garbage and we wasted millions on him..............

can we, or should we really write Jozy off?
i mean if we are taking an honest look back then in the majority of our games we have struggled to create chances never mind goal scoring opportunities, both wickham and altidore struggled in the side.
i think i would be correct in saying at times we have struggled just to get a shot on target but with the team looking settled if we can find a good replacement for borini there is no reason we cannot continue (even improve on) our recent form which means altidore may well get the chances he has not had.
his 'all round' play has been fine but as a striker struggling for goals he will always have critics.

Has it?...........the ball bounces off him all over the place and he looks like falling over everytime its played up to him...........

Someone in the pub after the Chelsea game said he should have taken the penalty to which one of the lads said " I doubt he could kick it far enough............mind you he could trap it that far though"...............

This is going on like an old 78 record with a crack in it. Altidore has scored 2 goals from 53 appearances in the English Premier League. His Fan-Club in the USA will tell you this is because he plays for crap teams who cannot supply him with opportunities. In truth Altidore will only score when top class mid-fielders can dazzle the opposition and lay the ball on to an empty goal line for him to tap in. His supporters will then drown the message boards telling anyone who will listen what a great 'striker' (don't make me laugh) he is.
Wilfried Bony (who outscored him the Eredivisie last season) would have been a far better prospect and has 16 from 32 with Swansea and 3 from 2 in the FA Cup.
Now THAT is a STRIKER's record!

Bony cost £12m, the same as Sturridge and he's got 20 goals.

It really hasnt.

Sometimes things don't work out for a player at a club. There are rumours Altidore is very good, but his lack of first touch, lack of insight and inability to threaten a keeper have become terminal here and we quite rightly no longer risk a starting shirt on him.

Most of our squad no matter how much abuse they get, have had at least a handful of good games, and most a few great games and inconsistency is the key problem. Jozy is different, the peaks have been hard to spot - he just never seemed to get started and given the passage of time I can't see why he will now. Did well against Chelsea to get that penalty and played his part, but it is an oasis in avast desert. Good luck to him, but I think it will have to be somewhere else.

I didn't realize that Bony had cost that much - I thought it was about 8 million. Nevertheless at the beginning of the season he would (on paper) have been worth twice as much as Altidore but at this stage he is worth 16 times as much. The prospect of relegation is beginning to fade a little in which case there will be no place whatsoever for Altidore next season and I believe Management will cut their losses and if they can't get rid will loan him out for whatever they can get.

We certainly can't risk a starting shirt on him, and Wickham is in great form so there's no risk of us doing so. The real question is going forward. We paid a fair amount for Altidore and there's no way we can recoup that right now, regardless of division. If we stay up (touch wood), what happens will probably be determined by how he does in the World Cup. If he bags a goal or two, we should be able to recoup a decent percentage of our money and get him a fresh start at a decent club in a decent league. If not, it might be tough to sell him at almost any price. In that case, you have to wonder if he'd be amenable to a loan to try to get his head straight and his confidence back. Perhaps back to Holland, perhaps to the Championship if he's willing to swallow his pride and try to make it in England. We've seen what a loan spell did for Wickham; if it did half that for Jozy, he could still be useful to us.

Wickham was the same up until VERY recently.
