Nowt much to write home about really is it?
Bizarrely mediocre for someone rated so highly, certainly post-Bolton.

Every club he has left is in the shit.......

He sorted us out last season. Things could have been so much better had he stayed.
I think it would have been better also but we'll never know.

I don't know why win percentage is one of the main stats when ideally it should be Points Per Game. I say this as he's got a lower win percentage with us at 30% and 30.7% at West Ham. Yet his PPG was 1.3 with us compared to 1.16 with West Ham. Over a season that's over 49 points for us and 44 for West Ham for example so you can see how win percentages don't truly show a managers return seeing as it ignores a draw that can also generate points.

Even so, both win percentage and PPG stats don't fully describe Sam's time here to someone who only looks at those stats. He started off by taking over a shit team that had picked up 3 points from the first 9 games of the season. It understandably took some time before he settled in but the results certainly improved from January 2016.

You can see in the last 11 games, we only lost to the Champions Leicester. In those final 11 games we picked up 16 points with 3 wins, 7 draws and the one loss. He seemed to be turning losses into draws.

We actually got 27 points in the 2nd half of the season which is a canny PPG return as that would be 54 over a full season. I think most could see we were playing far better come the end of the season to what we were like when he first came in. The question that will never be answered is what would this season have been like, ignoring whether or not he'd have had the money to spend.

His appointment at Palace had some people just say 'well that's them safe' as if he just had to walk through the door, kiss the scarf and sit back chewing gum.

Since his ridiculous dance, with the Palace mascot, bombed he's not come over as the same bulletproof confident man he used to.

He'll sort them out, tighten them up at the back ....

Has a reputation of getting the best out of lower teams and keeping them up. Says a lot about him really.

Meat and potatoes manager.

Read an article earlier that pointed out that he isn't really a relegation escape specialist, he did it with us and Blackburn but the rest of his seasons were all floating about mid-to-lower-table and not having to scrap it out. Hopefully he fails with Palace because they're a shitty club.

Yeah, it's a bit of a myth, his start with us was dreadful, but then picked up big time. The relegation firefighter he is not statistically if you are looking for the 'instant hit'. It had started working well for us, but there is actually very little to support the notion that he was guaranteed to boost Palace. He tends to buy a lot of new bodies in windows and for Palace has spent big but bought few at least one of which is a dud. I fancy they will be beneath us, we just need another two now - Boro and either Leicester or Hull IMO if we are to stay up again.
