He doesn’t make the appointment but he does have a say in the matter and does get to put his view across. Dave jones got him in the room and he interviews well. The sporting director has a duty to address the public on things like this.

He said how impressed he’s been in Beales first couple of days. That doesn’t suggest at all that Speakman was the one who suggested him.

I agree with the Clark point, unfortunately I live in Coventry now so use them as my point of reference. When they sold Gyokeres they signed Hadji Wright and Simms who both scored 29 goals between them, plus two other first team regulars. They had obviously planned ahead. Something we seem incapable of doing.

We don't seem incapable mate,it's now becoming pretty clear that we are incapable.At least those charged with doing so are incapable.Its either we won't pay the fees needed for an "oven ready" striker or no one notable wants to work under the present coaching regime (not the head coach as he needs a chance) but speakman and tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber .Sadly I suspect it's a bit of both.

What we have is really clear criteria and a really clear process, so we then work through a really tough interview process to get the right person. You have to work through the speculation and the noise and stay laser focused on getting the right outcome, and we feel we've done that.
