Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

West Brom have just signed 29 year old Devante Cole from Barnsley who scored 18 in 46 in League One last season.

I think it shows that even the better sides in the division find it hard bringing in good strikers with little money to spend.

He’s below average and has spent pretty much his entire career in League One. When he did play in the Championship he scored once in 24 games.

Aye, but the difference is he's probably been signed just to add to the strikers they have already. Basically strengthen their foward line options.

You make it sound like they put a bit in, had it accepted, negotiated terms with the player, booked a medical in for him,and then signed a contract, all in the space of 24 hours.

It'll have been going on for weeks man

Thats presumably true. Hopefully we have multiple other forwards going on for weeks too

He doesn't, he just wants someone sacked without really knowing what's going on behind the scenes.
People need sacked because of performance. The biggest club outside the premier league was nearly relegated back to Div 3 last season.

Gross mismanagement and several could have lost their jobs given how pathetic we were for months and would have had very little complaints.

Some of these are still in senior positions and nothing has been learnt from last season given our recruitment to date.

The new HC is on a hiding to nothing and will be the scapegoat soon enough

I wish people would give this "biggest club outside the Prem" shit a rest. Its makes us look deluded, probably isn't true, and even if it is, doesn't make the tiniest bit of difference.

Our success 60 or so years ago means fuck all today., same with 40k+ crowds.

We are historically a big club. We get good numbers home and away. No success for over 50/60 years unfortunately means people these days don't think of us a big club in that respect.

Exactly my point mate. Doesn't give us some divine right to expect to be in the Prem. There are plenty other teams that are in or have been in the Championship recently with a lot more recent success than us.

That's what some of our older generation of fans struggle with. To a lot of people we do have a divine right to be in the Premier league. I'm not saying that's what we shouldn't be striving for, of course it should, but a lot of people struggle with the notion that after the last 10 years or so we are not as big a proposition as we used to be. I hope we can get back there ASAP.

Sadly he will be, patience will be bordering on zero. Still no assistant and the fact that Dodds and Proctor haven’t been replaced to be honest is not a surprise. The football under Dodds almost had us relegated. The owner’s loyalty is denying the opportunity to bring better qualified coaches. Quality of players is obviously paramount but the Head Coach and his assistants will make the real difference as to how successful we will be this season.

Couldn't agree more on every level with this mind. Hopefully we are there in the not too distant future.

Mendy has never replicated scoring form anywhere outside of Ligue 2 though.

His record at the top level in France in the league is less than Josh Maja's record.

Similarly to Maja when dropping into Ligue 2 they then started scoring around a goal every other game in the league. Yet in the championship Maja's record then becomes probably poorer than his own in Ligue 1.

Obviously different players, likely different strengths and its a gamble you take, but on the face of it Ligue 2 probably doesn't look very strong.
Plus our recent track record of foreign signings isnt something to get excited about. This signing needs to be on point for everyones benefit
