Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)


I’m surprised there’s no other championship clubs being mentioned around the conversation given what a commodity strikers with any kind of goal scoring records are, and that it’s just Saudi or other European 2nd tier clubs being talked about

30 and never played outside of France, so a bit of an unknown commodity as to how he'll adapt.

It is a bit weird like, when you look at how many clubs are chasing the same 5/6 names but then there's only us from the Champ being linked with Vipotnik too, so I guess everyone's just focused on Champ experienced above all.

I’ve been of the opinion that prices for experienced players at this level is completely out of whack, based on Cannon and Parrot.

2m for Thomas Asante and 5m for Conway seem like reasonable deals tho. I’d have been happy with either of those.

Even those two are pretty average and I wouldn't be confident with either up top as the main man, similar with Gallagher who is off to Stoke. You can see why we're looking elsewhere, 5m for someone who *might* just about get to double figures in the Championship is mental.

If you gave me a straight choice between Mendy or Asante for 2m I’d probably take Asante. He’s younger, played in the league before and has looked good when I’ve seen him.

I understand why the club is making the decisions they are in general, but either is a risk and one seems to have more upsides.

Hopefully if we do get Mendy he replicates his form in France here.

Those two are pretty average but it’s the going rate and 11 goals would be a much better return than what we got last season. We spent 2.5 million on Rusyn didn’t we? Not in a position to gamble for me.

We still need Mayenda to mature but I think he can bring whatever we'd get from Asante, whose absolute best season ever saw him score 11 goals. In fact, Mendy has score more in the last three seasons than Asante has in all 265 of his senior appearances.

Main worry with Mendy is he's 30 and never played outside of France but if we could get him and Vipotnik I'd be very happy, as surely one of them would score regularly?? :lol:

Since Nisbett moved to Millwall, Shankland has taken over the mantle of most overrated player on this forum.

I have watched him for years in the Scottish Championship, and he has been average at best. The only really good season prior to moving to Hearts was for a Dundee Utd team far too good for the league, who's entire tactics were set up to get him goals.

He has been pretty good at Hearts, but his stats are also bumped up by the ridiculous amount of penalties they got the season before last.

He is the kind of player you wouldn't moan at for less than a million, but nowhere near worth the money Hearts apparently want.

He's linked with rangers every week it seems too and they've not made a move, would think it'd be a no brainer if he was up to the standard
