Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Speakman tells us we are preparing for the next window as soon as the previous one shuts.

Despite this we still dont have a forward for over 18 months since Stewart got injured at Fulham. Some preparation.

We are also linked to foreign strikers who take much longer to settle so integration needs to happen sooner than later. Yet we will probably be scrambling round in the last week of the window or bring back Dajaku as the great man has said more than once he can be our centre forward.

If anyone needed proof that this was nonsense the manager hunt surely persuaded anyone.

I know we were expecting still but even then we didn't just offer him it at season end.

We have several can't just keep singing players for a position
Not sure we're desperate when we have 2 good left backs and 1 good right back fit, with some admittedly poorer options in reserve. Much bigger priorities at present.
If we sign a centre back we’ll be okay for right back. O’Nien and Seelt once back both decent cover. Assuming Pembele is off.
Respect all opinions but my take on the matter.

Right Back options:
- Hume
- Huggins
- Pembele
- Seelt / O’nien

Hume is obviously brilliant and fine. Huggins is returning from a major injury and long lay off. Will take time getting up to speed but there’s also worries of his fitness. I don’t think Pembele has the concentration, grit and aggression to play full back. Looks more suited to a wing back system where there’s an extra centre back behind him. He’s also likely away. Similarly in the opposite with Onien and seelt as cover they’re both fantastic defenders at full back, but getting forward and doing what Hume does isn’t very good imo. Seelt also returning from a major injury

At right back I’d like to see Pembele loaned or sold and a backup right back brought in.

For left back you’ve got:
- Cirkin
- Alese
- Huggins

Cirkin is a good left back. But has problems with fitness and it’s a worry expecting him to play consistently. Similarly with Alese, I like him. Just don’t think he’s the best going forward, but also struggles with fitness and there’s been occasions where both Alese and cirkin are injured. See above for Huggins but he’s also not a natural left back due to being right footed, but is good there.

So I’d like a LB that is good enough to play or rotate simply because of fitness worries.

Get what you're saying but you can't just sell everyone who's on a longer contract like hjelde or pembele before they have a fair crack at the whip we have a squad of about 30 and we need another 3 players minimum so adding a player in positions we have already seems unecisery, if and it's a big if cirkin and alese stay fit another fullback would be waste, could sign a young player who could cover CB and fullback I guess

Regardless of if its mendy or not I'd be gutted if we don't get at least two experienced strikers this summer.

Our 4 strikers made 74 league appearances in total last season and managed a grand total of just 3 goals. If that is not a clear indicator that they were not good enough then I'm not sure what is.
Totally agree mara.

I wouldn't sign another full back like, there are so many players who can play each side.

On the right there is Hume, Pembele, O'Nien, Johnson, then eventually Huggins, Seelt.

On the left there is Cirkin, Alese, Hjelde, Bainbridge and also Huggins.

2 centre forwards will do for me, unless we sell any of our best players.

If we want a new LB then one of Alese or Cirkin need to go or Alese needs to be considered as a CB. Personally I’m okay with those two as LB competition. I think Hume and Pembele is just about enough for RB but agree if Pembele goes it would be essential.
O’Nien, Ballard, Triantis, Seelt and Hjielde would be great if all fit but I’d quite like another CB and let Triantis go on loan. Sell Anderson.
Defence and keeper look pretty good without too much tinkering imo.

Good points. I just think as much as we can name players than can fill at RB. None bar Hume are good enough.

LB I get it’s a bit of a harsh signing as we have two decent ones. It’s more a worry of mine about fitness

Hume has played practically every week since breaking in though, it's unlikely you'd get someone as good to sit behind him on the bench. Jury's out, but I'm not convinced by Pembele either, he defends like a winger, so if he was to go then I'd be in favour of another young 'un to replace him behind Hume.

I’m fairly sure you need to submit a squad of 25 for the season (although players under 21 count autmatically).

We’re probably close to a limit on that when a striker or two is added.
