They signed 4 last summer, they tried and failed to fix the problem. There is this idea that Speakman has spent the last 2 years saying that centre forwards are useless and we don't need one. Obviously nobody is gonna thank him for signing players who aren't at the level, but it's obvious he agrees that it needs fixing.

About our ambition, how have we managed to con the likes of Ballard and Rigg into signing contracts here? How come we don't see Clarke going on strike like Rowe has from Norwich?

Maybe things aren't as bad as all that, and it's just a centre forward or 2 away from being a very good Championship squad?

We may have been interested. We’ve been scared off any it’s finished. The owners won’t tolerate anyone with a voice and absolute zero chance no matter how desperate we are us mendy signing. Just close the thread and hope some unknown, unproven striker from Brighton joins in loan.

Its much more than just a centre forward , as you put it. Going off the showing v Preston and on field performances last season by these 4 you mentioned and others, you should be worried... I am. This, what seems to be a scattergun ,approach in signing players to develop rarely works en masse. He may well have recognised his failings, I doubt it , but these next few weeks are going to be quite interesting.

Thats where your arguing against yourself tho with that line - as @molthemackem says it comes down to money and ambition and signing 4 untested, untried, young, raw (and ultimately not good enough) centre forwards to fix a problem is like throwing shit against a wall and hoping it sticks.
 
Its very clear to me that we are always looking to acquire players at the cheapest price possible we are one of those kents that to use a house buying analogy :were the twats that go on a viewing and butter up the vendor oh yes the house is great well done on the presentation ... i see your asking for 300 thousand ,well we like it so much so we would like to offer 200 thousand!I firmly believe were under offering well below market value again and again and hoping someone will be desperate enough to sell!Its obviously not working so we will end up in the rental sector in a very low rent area!

We are not "just 2 forwards away" though are we. The team put out against Preston Bar Rigg, Aoochiche and may be Ekwah should worry every single Sunderland Supporter for the coming season. Speakman has signed player who are not capable of challenging those in the first team. Thats what you do if you want success, recruit better than what you already have, its a basic or should be of any football team wanting to progress not buying or signing players just for the sake of it.

Spot on.

The striker situation is the most urgent problem. However there’s also a serious problem with how much utter rubbish Speakman has packed this squad out with.

yep - agree with this apart from Aouchiche..really dont think hes good enough and im sick of seeing Ekwah plodding

If we were to field that 11 this season then aye I agree we'd be bang in trouble. But Rigg and Ekwah I have no worries about, they could play on Sunday and we'd be fine. Mundle and Auochiche I think will contribute this season, probably as starters at some point.

Of the rest, maybe you could get away with Triantis for a game or 2, Rusyn I don't mind as a sub, Ba could come on and be horrendous or set 1 up and score himself. Think we could use an old defender as backup with Alese and Cirkin's injury record.

I don't think many other Championship squads have great depth throughout the squad. Burnley and Luton probably do, Boro look well stocked now.
