Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Still think we need two tbh. Rusyn may be relied on as a 3rd striker or out wide.

I don't really take much from pre season games, they can be misleading at best, and are there for fitness mostly. Mayenda does look to have some ability, but (along with Hemir) they need a run of games to build up some consistency which I doubt they'll get here.
Personally I wouldn’t be fussed seeing Rusyn and Hemir go out on loan and allowing the opportunities to go to Mayenda as he looks to have the most natural ability.

I wish people would stop conflating the two. Mayenda turned 19 recently. Hemir turns 21 next week. While they're both young Mayenda in football terms is a lot younger. Even down to experience.

Hopefully Hemir gets a loan. Mayenda may be best served being here and getting off the bench 20 times this year

I think Rusyn probably has more ability and game experience for the first team squad this season. Saying that, we may need to keep everyone as it looks like we're struggling to even bring one striker in let alone two.

For me, both need regular games rather than stagnating on the bench or U23's. Both big lads, get them out playing mens football.

Speakman would’ve only been here a month or so before Stewart so must’ve been shit hot with the data
Fairly certain that Brian McDermott recommended him to Lee Johnson and that’s how it came about. Also think Speakman mentioned he was monitoring Stewart too so can only assume the recommendation would have fast tracked things.

Course Speakman has said he was monitoring him. The transfer worked out. Hed want a share of credit.

Lee Johnson and Brian McDermott responsible for LND.
I get the speakman dislike, he’s clearly missed a trick the last 18months or so. But he was on the payroll when Stewart came through the door and has to be given credit for it, he’s the one who has say on transfers. Can’t really have it both ways, so for me it’s credit where it’s due in Stewart. Just hope he finds another fairly swiftly or his neck is on the chopping block.

We are so close to a very good squad that could compete for top 6. I like what we’ve done so far this summer, just 2 or 3 away from a very strong window. Fingers crossed Speakman realises this too.

Are you implying that Speakman didn’t monitor the shit signings. Speakmam should get a share of every bit of credit, good & bad & we’ve got a team full of very good footballers that were brought in under him with a few very obvious gaps. He needs to plug the gaps that he’s failed to so far & put them alongside the positions that have been filled successfully

Take it this your first transfer window? In between a major international tournament which all the best players play for the best clubs, and nothing begins until they start turning the cogs, then it begins to filter down and decisions begin to be made.. some folk literally just seem to bizarrely believe you just get West Ham on the blower ask the shelf price of a player and bank transfer the moolar and he just hops in his motor and starts just playing for Sunderland. There’s absolutely millions of I’s to dot and T’s to cross, and even more so in this era of the agent.

If this was Speakmans first transfer window at the club he might have some mitigation but the whole Euro’s excuse is largely irrelevant to us.

The fact is Speakman has left us short without a competent striker for far too long and this should have been addressed far sooner than this window. It’s almost inconceivable that six weeks into this summer’s window with the club about to play its fifth preseason game of seven that we still have nobody anywhere even remotely capable of playing the striker role in the championship.

I agree that none were ready to lead the line. 100%. I think Mayenda particularly has shown the most natural ability and definitely see a player in him and would like to see him get a chance. We obviously need a striker who’s ready for that role now.
It’s hard like, cos of them all, attribute wise, you’d think Hemir would be the person who could potentially be the one to “lead” & “play off”. Obviously he needs to improve on a vast amount of things. Rusyn seems to be someone who might benefit from playing around someone else. He’s not a winger, but we play a wingers & one forward who can get quite isolated. Mayenda, from what little I’ve seen, in the middle, very raw.

We possibly play the wrong formation for Rusyn?

To get someone now to competently lead the line would be perfect. Allow Hemir to go out & play minutes at a lower level, maybe keep Mayenda knocking about getting off the bench regularly & see what happens in the first half of the season.

There’s three players that might not make it, but could possibly come good. Hemir included. Got to remember, three different managers last year, it turned into a rudderless ship & the team were struggling. Hard for any player to perform well as a new foreign signing, each with their own hurdles.

Why? Last season under Mowbray we were challenging for top six.
Whereas I get the sentiment and agree somewhat that we're already in a better position (not being as negative as the guy you responded to), that first season I think Amad inspired the team/fans alot.

He probably got us an extra 15 points or something that season alone.

i agree with everything your saying there mate. its not easy to get any transfer across the line but why don't we learn from mistakes. What i think will happen is that we will probably buy a cheap £1m at most experienced striker who is brought in to try to develop our non goal scoring forwards we already have and then dip into the loan market on deadline day. The experienced striker is at most a volley back to the fans who criticise the club for always buying younger players and not investing in experience.

When Dack doesnt work out its Mowbrays. When Stewart does its a collective effort.

Cant have it both ways.

Johnson said Brian Mc had highlighted player & he watched him so coukd sign when got a new club. Speakman was in academy football when LJ was looking for players for 1st team

Weve needed at least one forward since January 2023. That is gross incompetence not bringing at least one in from then. We are now a fortnight from season and we still dont have one. Integration time is passing all the time. Doesnt matter though we can sign more wingers because we dont need a number 9 or could try to get Dajaku back!

Totally agree with everything you’ve said there mate. It’s difficult as they’re so young and raw and fan opinion isn’t exactly high of them after last season but for me that shouldn’t cloud things. They’re young and they need time and patience which was in short supply last season. I really hope at least one of them turn into a very good player for us and my money would be on Mayenda.

It clear from the players we have bought/being linked with that lessons have been learned. If we can get a couple of strikers, a centre-back, and a replacement for Clarke if he goes, there’s no reason we can’t challenge for the top 6.

Don’t disagree with any of that, but there’s a point when the criticism of Speakman suggesting he tries to take credit cos something is successful diminishes decent points like that above. We 100% have failed to find the right forward for too long, but that doesn’t mean that there’s things that we’ve done right which he shouldn’t get credit for.

It’ll be extremely frustrating if we don’t get the right striker in in the next month.

If that helps you sleep mate 😂😂😂

I meant the second season tbh. We were eight when he was sacked iirc. A striker would have made a difference
