quality though? yes.

Rose was almost a complete unknown and the screeching on here was deafening, almost as loud as when we got Welbeck. Fletcher - sign players from relegated teams etc. that's what was being said at the time. Ironically the two best lads were the ones the panic merchants made the most noise about and the one who had us all genuinely excited didn't turn up. Just goes to show eh? Maybe something along the lines of 'wait and see before the knives come out'?

I think the big areas were fb and cm we've struggled to address those areas dropping down to plan z by now.

Can you give me a link to the 25 midfield players we've been close to signing?

CM only became a real priority once we let Alf go imho.

He wouldve signed Mensah if he'd proved his fitness.

Mensah seemed to be fit enough in the World cup but I take your point - but in addition to Mensah we also had Wellbeck and Onouha who were =first team stalwarts and was De Silva a loan (or a meringue),

Yes, I do know that we have tried mate. It's the same each year. We have 'tired'

Just pay out some cash and get some permanent players through the door.
It'll be wages as well until we got players like Bardsley off the wage bill we couldn't really bring anyone in Sess has been sold so we free up another 60k off the wage bill.

Same year in year out to be honest mate. Getting a bit sick of Short taking credit for this 'revolution in terms of bankroll' when it's actually not happening.

We need to reduce out wage bill but seems like every year we are cost cutting.

Di Canio had a player in mind to play alongside Cabral the Alf sale had nothing to do with who we wanted to bring in.

If you can't get the ones you want, it makes sense to get a stop gap until you get the deal done for the one you want. Ki and Buttner, for example, buy us time to investigate potentially better targets we may be able to get next year - someone in the last year of their contract who's too expensive now, a better look around the lower divisions etc. I'm certain we could have filled the squad with cheap Italians if we'd wanted to, but would that have worked?

It's also the first window for this lot, so it's not the same as always, there's no history to pin on them.

'just pay out some cash' - we all wish it was that simple.

He was the one that proposed the FFP wage cap in the Premier League so he has to adhere to it more.

Am not being funny but it's been a stop gap every single year.

Sick of the same old shit

If this was MoN frantically scraping around looking for players, key ones at that, there would be hell on.

The whole idea of this new regime was to put and end to this sort of nonsense.

MON would not have progressed beyond his two domestic targets all summer. He'd have stormed off in a huff if he'd had to deal with what SAFC have in this window. Considering the amount of disappointments we've had in key positiions I'm amazed that anyone can be anything other than impressed by RDF et als work in sourcing targets this summer.

if/when sess is sold - net spend: £3.5M. you can tell what the plan is

Pepe is fuming still banging on about O'Neill :lol::lol: bet you're in tears anarl./quote]

I am so mad I even referred to previous windows where we have been scrambling around.

2 key areas not addressed, only the Vaux site has been vacant for longer

I seem to remember that as well. So there was a plan there, for whatever reason it didn't come off. Under previous regimes the white flag would have been out and we'd have been making do. Instead we're still actively pursuing players, perhaps not permanently granted, but trying nontheless. I fail to see what the big problem is in this - doing something - compared to previous methods - it's him or nobody - tbh, it really baffles me.
